Apple iPhone 4S benchmark results leaked
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesAppleiPhone 4s
Apple iPhone 4S benchmarks are hitting the web well ahead of the October 14 release date imposed by Apple at last week’s product unveiling. Preliminary results show that the updated phone is significantly faster than the original iPhone 4, although not quite as fast as the iPad 2.
Anandtech has gathered test results from multiple sources across the web that have early access to the phone and compiled them together in addition to results from their own database of tablets and smartphones.
The 4S was the fastest phone in SunSpider’s Javascript benchmark, narrowly dethroned by the Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 which scored two points higher. Apple’s new handset did take top honors in Rightware Browser...

Mango, or Windows Phone 7.5, was introduced to some existing Windows Phone users last month and introduces 500 new features. But is it better than the competition?

Motorola, Verizon holding special event Oct. 18 - Droid Razr?
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesMotorolaVerizon WirelessDROID RAZR
Verizon and Motorola have a strong relationship, as Moto was the first handset to kick off the uber-popular Droid lineup and the two companies are teaming up again for a special event Oct. 18. The invitation doesn’t give away much but we’re expecting some nice hardware.
The invitation simply says, “Faster. Thinner. Smarter. Stronger.” on it and if I were betting dollars to doughnuts, I’d say we’re going to see the Droid Razr. Most of you out there should remember how cool the original Motorola Razr was (at least the design) but the rumors on the new one suggest we’re in for a treat.
While we probably won’t get the clamshell design, we should be getting a Android 2.3.5 (Gingerbread), a qHD sc...

Nokia Tries To Play It Cool With New Dubstep Ringtone
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesNOKIA
OK, Nokia, we get it: you want to be cool. The Nokia/Monster headphones spotted a few days back was a start, but what better way to attract a hip young crowd than to jazz up your iconic jingle with some dubstep?
In fairness, Nokia didn’t actually design the thing themselves. Instead, they launched a contest last September where they asked people to submit fresh takes on Grande Valse, the Spanish guitar tune that’s been burned into every Nokia user’s brain since 1994.
The Finnish company received over 6,000 entries (some of which weren’t even ringtones, apparently), and a panel of 7 judges sifted through all of them to find a winner.
Valerio Alessandro Sizzi’s dubstep remix took top honors, a...

Motorola Droid X2 support page talks about the Android 2.3.4 Update
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesOperating SystemsMotorolaGoogleAndroid 2.3DROID X2
Well what do you know, Verizon and Motorola are preparing to launch an update for the Droid X2. We’ve no idea when that will exactly happen — as far as I know you may be getting it while reading this — but since the update already got a dedicated page at Verizon’s website (PDF file is here), I assume this will happen sooner rather than later.

Danish firm unveils a mobile phone that lasts forever
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell Phones
You’ve probably heard about some projects that aim to make eco-friendly disposable mobile phones. Here’s something completely different – a mobile phone that never will need to be replaced. Danish company Æsir is behind this product, which we could also call somewhat eco-friendly presuming such a device won’t be replaced as often as “regular” phones.
Unfortunately we don’t know the price, but I doubt we’re talking about a cheap device, considering the quality of its parts. Similarly, we don’t have the specs sheet, but yet again I will presume this is a basic feature phone.

A third party app called iGotYa did exactly what it was designed to do, resulting in the capture and arrest of 23 year old Brian Chatoo, accused of stealing an Apple iPhone 4 out of the pocket of a woman in Queens, 31 year old Erum Malik. Earlier in the week, Malik had downloaded the iGotYa app on to her phone. The software is designed to use the front-facing camera to take a picture of anyone trying to unlock the device with a incorrect password. and then email the picture to the owner of the phone. The app is available online from Cydia and costs $5.99. It is not available through iTunes.

Later this week, iOS gamers will have a lot to take in as both the iPhone 4S and iOS 5 will launch. The iPhone 4S will have Apple’s A5 dual-core chip running its innards which promise a 7x graphical improvement over the iPhone 4 and many of the benefits of iOS 5 are things gamers will gladly embrace, such as the new notifications center, the use of iCloud for games, and some much needed improvements to Apple’s Game Center service.
So without further ado, let’s get to the reasons why if you’re an iOS gamer, you should be excited about both the iPhone 4S and iOS 5.

Samsung Galaxy S III image allegedly appears on leaked slide
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesSamsungGalaxy S III
Now that it's almost the middle of October and the Apple iPhone 4S is setting records before getting released, the Samsung Galaxy S II is a couple of days away from getting launched on its third and last major U.S. carrier, and the Google Nexus Prime is soon to be announced, you would think that we would have a little time for a breather. But instead, Phandroid was sent a picture of a leaked photograph of a slide that allegedly shows off an image and the specs of the Samsung Galaxy S III.
According to the slide, the phone will have under its hood the recently announced Samsung Exynos 4212 which will run at 1.8GHz with 2GB of RAM. The back camera will be a 12MP shooter with a backlit CMOS sen...

Last month, we reported about a source for Droid-Life who calls himself the Panda King. The "King" had passed along word that the eagerly awaited debut of the Ice Cream Sandwich Android build would be launched via Verizon on November 3rd with the release of the Google Nexus Prime. Today, a source for Phandroid who is considered to be an Verizon "insider" confirmed that date as well. This means we can expect an introduction of the device to take place fairly soon.
At the same time, this source said that Verizon has high hopes for both the Google Nexus Prime and the Motorola DROID RAZR. Comparing the two, the source says the word he is getting is that the Nexus Prime has...

Windows Phone Mango is going to start rolling out to owners of the HTC HD7S for AT&T starting on Tuesday gradually to ensure that there are no issues when downloading and installing the newest version of Microsoft’s mobile OS.
The HTC HD7S may be a little late arriving to the Mango party but its better late than never. Like those devices, the update for the HD7S will receive the update gradually to ensure there are no issues.

Windows Phone Mango-powered Acer Allegro will cost 299 EUR
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesAcerAllegro
Acer will be launching a Windows Phone Mango-based device called Allegro in Europe at some point “before Christmas.” According to Telecompaper, the Taiwanese company will ask 299 EUR for the new phone, which BTW looks as the W4 we’ve seen before (and which is pictured above). Specs wise, it will come with a single-core processor under the hood, 3.6-inch WVGA screen, HSPA and Wi-Fi connectivity, GPS and a 5-megapixel camera.
In the other Acer news, they said that the Liquid Mini Ferrari Edition will also sell for 299 EUR. This little fella’ is everything but Ferrari under the hood, rocking a somewhat dated single-core 600MHz processor. Moreover, it also sports a 3.2-inch HVGA display, 5-megap...
