Nokia Lumia 800 takes off...and lands

Nokia Lumia 800 takes off...and lands

Posted on Jan 05, 2012 by MG1

We have seen very creative ways to advertise a smartphone, but in India, Nokia might have started something that we could see spreading around the globe. To promote the Nokia Lumia 800 in India, the manufacturer painted the name and colors of the device on the side of an Indian Airlines Jet Airways plane. Of course, we don't expect too many people to view the ad while the plane is in flight. However, with the trend lately to leave passengers sitting on the tarmac for hours without Air Conditioning, food or a usable bathroom, this captive audience will get to look at the ad while waiting to take off.
Even better for Nokia, they can honestly say that the Nokia Lumia 800 is taking off. And even...

Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc successor teased for CES

Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc successor teased for CES

Posted on Jan 05, 2012 by MG1

Sony Ericsson has just posted pictures of what appears to be a successor to the Xperia Arc. An update on Facebook shows a camera key very similar to the Arc's, a squared-off Micro-HDMI port, an HD camera, and an Android icon. No details were given, but a caption reads "just a few more days until we can reveal some interesting news," hinting that we'll be seeing the phone at CES.
Currently, two phones might meet the bill for this teaser. The first, the 4.3-inch Nozomi or LT26i, was leaked in November, with more information coming to light last month. A close look at one of the leaked Nozomi photos shows it with a covered HDMI port, however, and the camera key doesn't look like the one above. ...

Nokia Ace may get 'halo' status on AT&T, $100m marketing

Posted on Jan 04, 2012 by MG3

The Nokia Ace will get top-tier treatment when it arrives on AT&T in March, according to rumors on Tuesday. AT&T would give the phone hero-level treatment, BetaNews heard, both advertising and pushing it at every level. The carrier is considered the main partner for Windows Phone, but until now purportedly wasn't giving Microsoft's OS full attention.

Report: some iPhone 4S units may have audio issues on calls

Report: some iPhone 4S units may have audio issues on calls

Posted on Jan 04, 2012 by MG3

The Apple Support Communities forum has begun seeing widespread reports of intermittent audio failure on calls using the iPhone 4S, an issue where recipient can hear the caller but he cannot hear them. The problem is not consistent but happens often enough to be a source of irritation with users. While some have found workarounds, there is no indication in current developer builds of iOS 5 that any fix is in the works in the near-term.

After a quick look at this leaked picture of a HTC Windows Phone 7 handset, you'd be forgiven for thinking that you'd been peeking at a HTC Titan.
But take a closer look at the top edge where the logo is slightly bigger and where the front facing camera is a bit more prominent. And the side, where the buttons are in a different position. And not to mention the back which is completely ruddy different.

Samsung Galaxy Note Gets ICS-based CyanogenMod 9 Build

Samsung Galaxy Note Gets ICS-based CyanogenMod 9 Build

Posted on Jan 04, 2012 by MG3

Work on CyanogenMod 9 continues: yesterday saw the release of an experimental development build for the Samsung Galaxy Note, the first port of the new Ice Cream Sandwich-based OS to support the device. Samsung's official Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade for the Note is scheduled to be released before the end of the first quarter of 2012.
The new port is labeled "experimental" for good reason - while wi-fi, cellular data, audio, the touchscreen, and the GPS and sensors should be working properly, Bluetooth, battery usage, MTP mode, and the camera aren't. The team says that the camera won't work until it gets access to one of Samsung's official Android 4.0 builds for the Note, while the build's cur....

Samsung Galaxy Note spotted with AT&T logo

Samsung Galaxy Note spotted with AT&T logo

Posted on Jan 04, 2012 by MG1

The Samsung Galaxy Note has been spotted in a leaked render with an AT&T logo. The South Korea-based phone maker has already confirmed that the popular device will launch in the United States, but we haven’t yet heard a confirmation from a U.S. carrier. That may all change soon, however; the Consumer Electronics Show kicks off in less than a week and AT&T may make a Galaxy Note-related announcement at the show. The device packs a 5.3-inch display with a 1280 x 800-pixel resolution, an 8-megapixel camera, a 2-megapixel front-facing camera for video chats and a 1.4GHz processor. AT&T’s version of the Galaxy Note will supposedly offer 4G LTE support, too.

Motorola DROID 4 cases ready to go out the door sans the phone

Motorola DROID 4 cases ready to go out the door sans the phone

Posted on Jan 04, 2012 by MG1

What good is a case for a phone that hasn't been announced yet? Well, you could try to fool everyone around you by putting it to your ear and faking a conversation. "Yeah, Mom. She walked out on me again," you could say, and that would probably attract some attention. Or, you could give it to someone as a belated holiday gift and let him/her figure out how to buy the phone. But perhaps the best use of the case is as a tool that tells us that the next model in the distinguished DROID series is close to getting launched. And that is the situation with the Motorola DROID 4 as a couple of photographs show that cases for the handset are already being shipped out to some retailers.

iPhone 4S and iPad 2 jailbreak may be coming soon

iPhone 4S and iPad 2 jailbreak may be coming soon

Posted on Jan 04, 2012 by MG1

It’s been a long wait for iPhone 4S owners and an even longer wait for iPad 2 owners who want to jailbreak their devices. Released right after Christmas, the latest jailbreak for iOS 5.0.1 only works for A4 devices like the original iPad and the iPhone 4. Both the iPad 2 and the iPhone 4S are equipped with the A5 chip and can’t be jailbroken, yet.
pod2g has been working on the iOS 5 jailbreak for the past few months. He plowed through the 5.0.1 jailbreak and may have a breakthrough that’ll finally lead to a public, untethered jailbreak for the A5 devices within the next week. His tweet is no guarantee the jailbreak will be released, but it sounds promising.

LightSquared gets 30 day extension from Sprint, awaiting FCC approval

LightSquared gets 30 day extension from Sprint, awaiting FCC approval

Posted on Jan 04, 2012 by MG1

Filed in: Cell Phones

Sprint is extending the deadline for LightSquared to gain FCC approval on its proposed LTE network by 30 days. Both companies signed a 15-year agreement this past summer, that was expected to receive the go-ahead from Washington no later than December 31st.
If this partnership gets the thumbs up, the company gets its goal of a nationwide wholesale 4G network to be hosted by Sprint, which can also become helpful to LightSquared’s partners including Best Buy and Leap Wireless. This deal is an important piece to Sprint’s plan of deploying its LTE network.

CyanogenMod 7 nightly builds come for AT&T's LG Thrill, the Sony Ericsson Xperia active and Xperia pro

CyanogenMod 7 nightly builds come for AT&T's LG Thrill, the Sony Ericsson Xperia active and Xperia pro

Posted on Jan 04, 2012 by MG1

CyanogenMod nightlies have appeared for AT&T's LG Thrill 4G, as well as the Sony Ericsson Xperia active and Xperia Pro handsets.
The mods, which are intended to test features and iron out bugs, are based on the current CM7 edition, not the Ice Cream Sandwich-laden CM9, which is still in the labs, but you'll still get the purified, functional CyanogenMod experience.
Since these nightlies are a necessary step on the way to stable releases, your LG Thrill 4G and the two Xperias should be in the list of supported devices soon, and hopefully you will see CyanogenMod 9 gracing the screen too afterwards, if you love playing around with your Android phone's capabilities. And what CyanogenMod user d...

In fact, it features a 3.2” display with a resolution of 320 x 480, single-core 800MHz processor, 3.2-megapixel auto-focus camera, Bluetooth 3.0 with EDR, GPS, Wi-Fi, and a microSD card slot.

Samsung Galaxy S II Ice Cream Sandwich ROM released through Kies

Posted on Jan 03, 2012 by MG1

Multiple Ice Cream Sandwich beta ROMs for the Galaxy S II have started to trickle out, according to YouMobile. Floodgates, however, are still not widely open, since the new ROM requires Samsung Kies software and can’t be installed over the air. What’s more, we’re not sure every Galaxy S II user can get its Android 4.0 fix — Kies software updates are known to target select markets so you may not see it just yet.

Nokia Lumia 710 for T-Mobile pops up on eBay

Posted on Jan 02, 2012 by MG1

One way to get your hands on the Nokia Lumia 710 for T-Mobile is to sit tight and wait until January 11 when the smartphone is scheduled to be released. The handset will be priced at $50 after rebate should you sign a 2-year service agreement with the carrier. However, if you are not of the patient kind, or if the contract part of the deal you are not too fond of, what might interest you is the T-Mobile Lumia 710, which is currently for sale on eBay.
Currently, the highest bid stands at $355, which is a reasonable price for a mid-range Windows Phone handset. Besides, you don't need to put your signature under 2-year contracts or anything. Judging by the item's description and the attached im...
