Considering that the white HTC Sensation is shipping in Europe starting March 1st with Android 4.0, it might be no surprise that the Sensation series will be the first HTC phones to be updated to the latest Android version. Other HTC devices getting Android 4.0 sometime later this year include the HTC Rezound, HTC Vivid, HTC Amaze 4G, HTC EVO 3D, HTC EVO Design 4G, HTC Incredible S, HTC Desire S and HTC Desire HD. No precise date was given as to when the owners of these devices can expect the latest build of...

Telus LTE network launching Friday
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell Phones
Canadian carrier Telus will launch its LTE network across several provinces on Friday. The network will supplement its current HSPA+ network and should reach 25 million customers by the end of 2012. A handful of new LTE devices, including the Samsung Galaxy Tab and LG Optimus, will be available starting February 10; the Galaxy Note will be coming a few days later.
Telus expects its network to reach average speeds of 12 to 25Mbps, with a theoretical limit of 75Mbps. That's about average for Canada's LTE networks, although Rogers offers a couple of devices that can connect at (theoretically) faster speeds. Telus is behind Rogers and Bell on its LTE launch, but looks like it's hoping to draw pe...

HTC has confirmed plans to bring its very first LTE handset to Germany, with the launch of the Velocity. The phone, known Stateside as the Vivid and in South Korea as the Raider, features a 4.5-inch qHD touchscreen and is fueled by a 1.5GHz dual-core CPU. The Gingerbread-laced device also boasts 1GB of RAM, 16GB of flash memory and an eight-megapixel camera, along with your standard 1.3-megapixel front facing sensor. Vodafone confirmed the news to Germany's Computer Woche, though it has yet to offer a price or release date.

Samsung won't host an MWC 2012 press conference
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesSamsung
It was shocking enough to hear that Samsung won't introduce the Galaxy S III at MWC later this month, but now the company has gone further by announcing that it won't even hold a press event during the 2012 show. Sascha Segan over at PC Mag was first to hear this troubling news, which deprives us of one of the most colorful and frankly ostentatious events of the year. Samsung should still have a new product or three to launch at MWC, as promised, however the usual big set-piece event is now off the table.

Nokia 803 detailed, last of the Symbian Belles
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesNOKIA808 PureView
What may very well be the final Symbian device on the market has been tipped and detailed, it having what sources are saying is the largest camera sensor on a mobile phone yet. This information comes from BGR who have an exclusive source speaking on what this device will hold: a full 4-inch AMOLED display, for starters, instead of the 3.5-inch display that’d been rumored before. Next there’s an HDMI-out port, a bit of the ol’ microSIM, and NFC built in. This could be the Symbian to bring back the OS or it could be one final fabulous blast before it’s all over forever.

Win a free Samsung Galaxy Note from Samsung Canada
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesSamsungGALAXY Note
As part of the promotion for its highly sought-after phablet (phone/tablet), Samsung Canada is running a contest in which it will give away 5 Galaxy Note units to lucky bastards users.
The huge device is heading to Canada’s three networks — including TELUS, Bell and Rogers — and will cost up to $729.99 sans any long-term commitments. Of course, with a three-year contract the price goes down, but you’ll still need to shell out some $200 to get this beast phone/tablet.
The contest has already started and it runs through February 13th at 6:00 pm. You can check out all the details from this page at Samsung’s website. Good luck!
And before I let you, let me once again repeat the Galaxy Note’s sp...

Samsung will not hold a press conference at MWC
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesSamsung
Samsung has confirmed that the company will not be holding a press event at this month’s Mobile World Congress trade show, reports to PCMag. At last year’s event the company introduced the Galaxy S II smartphone and in 2010 it announced its Bada mobile operating system. Samsung may still have product introductions at the show, however it will not debut them on the big stage. The company previously confirmed that the highly anticipated Galaxy S III smartphone would not be announced at the event, and BGR exclusively reported in December that Samsung has plans to unveil a new high-end tablet with a high-definition display at Mobile World Congress, though the status of those plans may have chang...

Verizon Wireless to Bring Back Double Data 4G LTE Promotion
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesVerizon Wireless
Thinking about signing up with Verizon Wireless? If so, you may want to hold off a few days before inking a two-year service agreement with Big Red. Word on the Web is that Verizon is resurrecting its double data promotion for 4G LTE smartphones, which means instead of being allotted a rather snug 2GB data cap for $30/month, you'd be given room to breathe in a 4GB cap for the same monthly fee.

Motorola Motoluxe February launch for the UK
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesMotorolaMOTOLUXE
Motorola kicked off 2012 by announcing the arrival of both the Motorola Defy Mini and Motorola Motoluxe budget Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) handsets, and the latter is landing in the UK this month.
The Motorola Motoluxe has a 4-inch touchscreen display. The resolution isn't exactly high-end but, for a handset that is likely to appeal to the limited purse-strings of the tween market, 480x854 is none too shabby either.

LG may just have the answer to Fragma's prayers, as the Windows Phone 7 touting LG Miracle has been leaked all over the internet.
The Miracle isn't likely to take on the likes of the HTC Titan or Nokia's top end Lumia smartphones - the spec sheet suggests a mid-level entry device.
It is said to be packing a 4-inch WVGA NOVA display, which should sparkle somewhat, a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon CPU, 8GB of storage, a 5-megapixel rear camera that can shoot 720p video and a VGA front-facing webcam.

Nokia Moving Smartphone Production to Asia Amid Re-Org
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesNOKIA
Nokia today announced that it is making changes to its production facilities located in Komarom, Hungary; Reynosa, Mexico; and Salo, Finland. Nokia has used these plants to manufacture smartphones, but will now push its manufacturing from these facilities to its Asian factories, which are closer to its component suppliers. The three facilities will remain open, but will focus on smartphone product customization, serving customers mainly in Europe and the Americas. As a result, Nokia intends to eliminate about 4,000 jobs between the three plants. Personnel reductions are planned to be phased through the end of 2012.

Mobile devices now responsible for 8.5% of all web traffic
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesNOKIA
One could argue that you don’t need a personal computer to function in today’s world. You can do pretty much everything anyone would ever want to do on the internet with just a mobile phone. That was Nokia’s message back in 2007 when they launched the N95 and told people to refer to it as a “multimedia computer” instead of a smartphone. Now back in 2007 that message was a little hard to swallow, even with the release of the iPhone during the summer. Technology being what it is though, things have progressed exponentially over the past five years. One look at the 5.3 inch Samsung Galaxy Note is all you need to see that! The folks at StatCounter have been keeping track of the rise of mobile de...
