Virgin Mobile Venture ships March 15th for $99, pre-orders up now (update)

Virgin Mobile Venture ships March 15th for $99, pre-orders up now (update)

Posted on Mar 14, 2012 by MG1

Virgin Mobile has begun accepting pre-orders today for the ZTE Venture portrait QWERTY handset, which first popped up in render form back in December. It would seem that not much has changed between then and now for the $99 Android 2.3 device, which Virgin has slated for a March 15th release. Typically our expectations are somewhat tempered when dealing with a $99 prepaid smartphone, and the Venture is unlikely to change that stance. It's a run-of-the-mill Gingerbread handset through and through, offering a 2.8-inch touchscreen display and 2-megapixel camera among its specs of note.

This isn't the first time Rovio has offered up exclusive content for its games on specific devices. The level-ending Mighty Eagle was offered to Nook Color owners for free whenever they were playing Angry Birds inside of a Barnes & Noble, and the web version of ...

HTC Titan II to hit Australia in early April

Posted on Mar 14, 2012 by MG1

WPDownunder is reporting that the marketing campaign for the LTE-powered HTC Titan II is starting on the 27th March on the Australian Telstra carrier, with the handset expected to hit the market early in April.
The smartphone is rumoured to be free on a $79 /mo Freedom Connect plan or the cheaper $59 plan, with a $5 /mo MRO free, but pricing has not been confirmed yet.
If it does arrive in the next few weeks it is possible the device will beat the LTE Nokia Lumia 900 to market, at least in Australia and possibly in USA also.
The HTC Titan II features a 4.7 inch screen, 1.5 Ghz processor, 16 GB storage and a 16 megapixel camera, and of course LTE, backed by a 1730mAh battery.

AT&T version of Samsung GALAXY Note hacked to work on T-Mobile's 4G pipeline

AT&T version of Samsung GALAXY Note hacked to work on T-Mobile's 4G pipeline

Posted on Mar 14, 2012 by MG1

If you have been watching those Samsung GALAXY Note ads on television, or know someone with the "phablet," you might ask why others get all of the fun. If the problem is that you're an AT&T customer and don't have an upgrade at this time, and you don't want to pay the retail price, well there is not much anyone can do for you outside of giving you the money you need to buy the device. On the other hand, if the problem is merely that you are a T-Mobile customer, there is some hope for you.
Thanks to those Mensa members at XDA developers, there is a hack that will allow you to use the AT&T version of the Samsung GALAXY Note (i717) on the 4G network belonging to the fourth largest carrier in th...

Sony Xperia S now has access to PlayStation store

Sony Xperia S now has access to PlayStation store

Posted on Mar 14, 2012 by MG1

During this year's CES in Las Vegas, many smartphone fans became smitten with the Sony Xperia S. With that unique transparent strip about 10% up from the bottom of the phone, Sony has designed a unique handset that is the manufacturer's flagship model. When the phone was launched overseas, Sony did not have time to complete PlayStation support for the model, so those who purchased the Sony Xperia S up to now have had to live with a placeholder link instead of the real live PlayStation Store. But, as you might have guessed from the tone of this piece, things have now changed.
Starting on Tuesday, those who clicked on the app for the PS Store were taken to a web page where the storefront and t...

HTC Titan performs vanishing act from UK shelves

HTC Titan performs vanishing act from UK shelves

Posted on Mar 13, 2012 by MG1

The huge HTC Titan has subtly dropped off a number of online retailers with no explanation as to why.
The HTC Titan, which was released last year, rocks a 4.7-inch Super LCD screen, 8MP camera, 16GB internal storage and Windows Phone 7.5 Mango.
Retailers Carphone Warehouse and Phones4U along with networks Vodafone, Orange and T-Mobile all appear to have dropped the HTC Titan from their ranges.
Not so mighty now
It's thought that the HTC Titan may have been dropped due to a lack of demand and poor sales of the handset.

T-Mobile HTC One S shows up in FCC with AWS bands?

T-Mobile HTC One S shows up in FCC with AWS bands?

Posted on Mar 13, 2012 by MG1

It doesn't come right out and say it, but we have a strong suspicion that the HTC PJ40110 -- approved by the FCC today -- refers to T-Mobile's version of the HTC One S. This model offers an AWS 3G radio, in addition to AT&T-friendly 850 /1900 3G bands, and its ID is just a slight nudge from the PJ40100 (global One S). The timing of this seal of approval lines up with T-Mo's spring launch aspirations, and this is one particular device (pun unintended but welcome) we can't wait to see in stores.

Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G to launch via T-Mobile on March 28th for $149 on contract

Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G to launch via T-Mobile on March 28th for $149 on contract

Posted on Mar 13, 2012 by MG1

The Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G will be launched March 28th via T-Mobile at a price of $149.99 with a signed two-year pact. Don't let the price fool you, the device has some decent specs including the dual-core 1.5GHz Snapdragon S3 processor, a 3.97 Super AMOLED display with WVGA resolution, Android 2.3 and 42Mbps HSDPA+ connectivity. The 5MP camera on back offers AF and captures video at 720p
While Android 4.0 won't be loaded on the Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G right out of the box, the odds favor the handset getting updated to Google's latest and greatest not terribly long after launch. The Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G will join with the Samsung Galaxy S II and the HTC Amaze to form a rather power...

Nokia distributing Lumia 900 to developers, job applicants

Nokia distributing Lumia 900 to developers, job applicants

Posted on Mar 12, 2012 by MG1

WPCentral reports that developers have started receiving Nokia Lumia 900 handsets in USA. Nokia has earlier said they intend to give away 25,000 handsets to developers, so the company is clearly pretty generous with their hardware.
In fact they are so generous they are even giving away a handset every 30 min to job applicants at their job recruitment day in San Diego on March 15th.
While there is rumours that the handset is delayed, it seems a lucky few will getting their hands-on after all.

HTC Sensation Ice Cream Sandwich update is now live in parts of Europe

HTC Sensation Ice Cream Sandwich update is now live in parts of Europe

Posted on Mar 12, 2012 by MG1

Reports from around the web suggest some HTC Sensation users in Europe have started getting their serving of Ice Cream Sandwich. While we don’t see the pattern HTC is using to rollout the new firmware, it is clear that at first only folks with unlocked devices are getting Android 4.0.3.
The Taiwanese company is strangely quiet (for such a big news), so we keep listening to other people and their reactions. As far as we’ve understood, alongside Ice Cream Sandwich, HTC is also pushing updated version (3.6) of its Sense UI.

Samsung Galaxy Ace Plus coming to India for March launch

Posted on Mar 12, 2012 by MG1

Samsung apparently is about to launch a new phone in India later this month, the Samsung Galaxy Ace Plus. This is not the high-end Samsung Ace 2, but is an entry-level device that was originally introduced in January. The Samsung Galaxy Ace Plus also made the trip to Barcelona last month for MWC and Indian online retailer Flipkart says it will ship on March 21st. For now though, Flipkart is accepting pre-orders for the phone, which will cost 16,275 INR ($327 USD).
The Samsung Galaxy Ace Plus will come to market with a 3.65 HVGA display, and a rather meager pixel density of 158 ppi. a single-core 1GHz processor captains the ship with 512MB of RAM on board. The unit offers 3GB of native storage...

Samsung teases Galaxy S2 Ice Cream Sandwich update

Samsung teases Galaxy S2 Ice Cream Sandwich update

Posted on Mar 09, 2012 by MG1

Samsung is toying with our emotions as it announced the Samsung Galaxy S2 Ice Cream Sandwich update would be available tomorrow, only for it to dismiss the report hours later.
The initial report regarding the Samsung Galaxy S2 Ice Cream Sandwich update appeared on Samsung's Filipino portal and declared Galaxy S2 users would be able to upgrade their handsets on March 10.
Unfortunately Samsung was quick to respond via its Samsung Tomorrow Twitter account, stating that the Filipino announcement was "wrong" and "not true".
Hopes dashed, tears shed
We've been waiting for what seems like an eternity for the Ice Cream Sandwich update to hit the Galaxy S2 and Samsung is still unwilling to provide an...
