UK: O2 scores exclusive launch rights for Sony Xperia P in silver

O2 UK has managed to get exclusive launch rights for the silver version of the Sony Xperia P. The device is available for free with contracts starting at 27 GBP per month, with that particular plan (27 GBP/month) including 300 voice any network minutes, 500 O2 to O2 minutes, unlimited texts and 500MB of mobile data. Not too bad, but nothing special either.

Sony Xperia P and Xperia U to land May 28 in UK

UK retailer Clove has announced a change in the launch date for Sony’s Xperia P and Xperia U smartphones. The original launch date was set as May 7 when the devices were announced at MWC 2012. The new launch date is set as Monday, May 28. Both the smartphones are part of the NXT series with the P coming in black or silver and the U coming in white or black.

Brightstar to bring Sony Xperia smartphones to the U.S.

Wireless equipment distributor Brightstar announced plans to bring Sony’s Xperia smartphones such as the Xperia S, Xperia P and Xperia U to the U.S. market. Under the deal, Brightstar will use its vast distribution network (including more than 450,000 square feet of warehouse facilities) across North America to help the Japanese company get a decent market share.

Sony's press event is in full swing, and the first to arrive is the Xperia P. The phone follows on from the styling we saw on the Xperia S; but it looks likely to be the middle child, with a similar Sony-themed skin atop what appears to be Gingerbread Android, still housing dual-core power under the hood. Previously known as the Nyphon, the Xperia P has a 4-inch "WhiteMagic" display encased in an aluminum unibody. This new screen technology is apparently geared toward outdoor viewing, with NFC, HDMI connectivity and an 8-megapixel camera with full HD video capability.
