Motorola CLIQ Pro Reviews

expertreviews‘s review Edit

Motorola's Dext is a chunky phone with a slide-out QWERTY keyboard that runs a customised version of the Android 1.5 operating system, and includes Motorola's Motoblur software.

Motorola has surprised us at the launch of the Cliq and after spending a week with the phone, I feel good about it. It is reassuring that this time, the most interesting part of the phone is MotoBlur, and that's where the value is: software. In its first incarnation, MotoBlur does pretty well and "blurs" the separation between email, SMS and social networking thanks to a unified interface. Sending and receiving updates works in a way that makes things easier, faster and more productive.

Macworld‘s review Edit

For hardcore social networkers, the Motorola Cliq is a dream phone. You get fast access to all of your accounts and a well-designed QWERTY keyboard for typing long messages. If you aren't into social networking or if you want to keep that information limited to your computer, you may be turned off by the Cliq.

TechRadar UK‘s review Edit

Motorola is certainly back – the Dext is a phone with a lot to talk about. Moto's had a good hard think about a lot of new ideas for the phone, and the MotoBlur platform shows it's serious about configuring the software side of things as much as hardware. We swayed backwards and forwards over the Dext - but over time we came to like it.

Great social networking software, but it's bulky, the keyboard is poor and the screen is small

CNET Reviews‘s review Edit

With its excellent design, user interface improvements, and admirable feature set, the Motorola Cliq gives a big boost to the Android operating system. We had some performance quibbles with the device, and the MotoBlur interface can be a bit much, but the phone has a lot to like.

mobiledia‘s review Edit

The Motorola Cliq stands out for its first-of-its-kind MotoBlur technology. Social networking fans that can't get enough of their friends and the emails and text, instant and multimedia messages they send will enjoy being able to see all of that communication in one place without having to log in and out of various places one at a time, which can become a real time-waster.

Motorola comes out swinging with the new CLIQ, its first Android phone. The CLIQ uses MOTOBLUR to stream social networking content to the home screen. Does Motorola hit a home run, or a foul ball?

HardwareZone‘s review Edit

The biggest question that you should be asking is this: will Motorola be able to get itself back into the game? For us, we are having renewed hope for the company if the DEXT is anything to judge them by. With Motorola getting all cozy with Google and refreshing its lineup with the Android platform, the potential is ready to be tapped upon.

Pocket-lint‘s review Edit

But there is one more thing that disappoints with the Motorola DEXT and it's surprising: it's a poor phone for making calls. Yes, like the iPhone, the design means it is uncomfortable against your ear when make conventional phonecalls, thanks to a hard plastic ridge at the top of the screen. The speaker for calling is also poor and distorts heavily when you turn the volume up. If you happen to be somewhere noisy or someone is especially quiet on the phone, you'll never hear them.

The Dext has a great deal going for it. The capacitance touchscreen is reasonably good, the slide-out keyboard is excellent and the Motoblur social networking apps are a treat to use. However, the lack of multi-touch, ugly design and sometimes sluggish performance means it doesn't endear itself to you in the same way as, say, the HTC Hero. It's still a fine handset, but it's far from being our favourite Android handset. Perhaps Motorola can go one better with the upcoming Droid, or Milestone as it seems set to be called in Europe.

The CLIQ is Motorola's first smartphone based on Android, the platform that is supposed to save the company. The CLIQ for T-Mobile USA, also known as the DEXT in other markets, turns out to be a solid device.

PC Magazine‘s review Edit

The Motorola CLIQ is the company's first Android-powered smartphone. It's also a stellar device for the socially inclined. It aggregates updates from social networking sites, photo sharing sites, and Web-based e-mail. It could easily serve as the center of your connected universe. For a change, that's not hyperbole. Despite a few stumbles, the innovative and effective CLIQ easily wins our Editors' Choice award for T-Mobile smartphones.
