Google: Flash for Ice Cream Sandwich yet to be released

Update: Adobe has confirmed that it will indeed be releasing Flash Player for ICS.
It said in a statement sent to Pocket-Lint, "Adobe will release one more version of the Flash Player for mobile browsing, which will provide support for Android 4.0, and one more release of the Flash Linux Porting Kit -both expected to be released before the end of this year."
And that's your lot - after Android 4.0 support, there will be no more versions of Flash Player built by Adobe, although it will continue to offer "critical bug fixes and security updates".
Google has confirmed that Ice Cream Sandwich lacks Flash support and will continue to do so until Adobe makes the necessary updates to the software.

Android 4.0 keyboard now available for older versions

The Galaxy Nexus is almost here, but even if you're not in the market for a new phone you can sate your Ice Cream Sandwich appetite a little thanks to an XDA developers user, who extracted the keyboard application from Android 4.0 and made it available as a free download for Android 2.2 and 2.3. It's not the full 4.0 experience — voice input isn't working, and not all languages were ported over — but the keyboard's improved autocorrection, new look and feel, and a few other features came over in the transfer. We installed the keyboard on a Droid X2 running Gingerbread, and it activated and worked seamlessly.

Google confirms no Flash in ICS until Adobe updates it

It shouldn't be much of a surprise, because apps often have to be updated to support the newest version of Android before they become available, but Google has confirmed that Flash is not currently supported in ICS.
Those of you in Europe may have already noticed, and theoretically we'll find out soon enough in the States, but Adobe Flash player is not currently supported in Ice Cream Sandwich, and is not available in the Android Market. Even worse, there is no way right now to load up the old version of Flash.

CyanogenMod 9 for Ice Cream Sandwich in the works

With Ice Cream Sandwich righting the wrongs of Honeycomb three days ago in terms of source code availability, possibilities for mods and custom versions are blossoming again. CyanogenMod 9 is now under development, with a loose arrival date of January expected. Version 8 had been reserved for Honeycomb, but has now been skipped over due to Google holding on to its source code. The Samsung Galaxy S2 will be getting Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, the company’s UK arm has confirmed this week via Twitter.
While it should come as no surprise – even six months on, the Samsung Galaxy S2 is still just about the most powerful phone on the market, and to ignore it would be a shock – it is reassuring to see Samsung publicly committing to it.
Ice Cream Sandwich, which launches on the Galaxy Nexus today, includes many new features, including face recognition unlock, improved voice commands and dictations, an overhauled UI and better multi-taking, with screenshots of each running app.

Sony Ericsson Clarifies Xperia Ice Cream Sandwich Plans

In addition to outlining its plans in Dutch on Facebook, Sony Ericsson has clarified its stance on bringing Ice Cream Sandwich to the Xperia-toting masses on its blog today. As if you haven’t been obsessively reading up on the update already, I’ll go ahead and mention a few new features including flexible widgets, Roboto font, the ability to take screen shots, revamped notifications and facial unlock. Luckily, if your phone came out in 2011 and it has “Xperia” in the name, Ice Cream Sandwich is headed your way.

Google Releases 'Ice Cream Sandwich' Source Code

Google on Monday finally released the source code for Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich.
But on the Google Forums, Jean-Baptiste M. "JBQ" Queru, a software engineer on the Android Open-Source Project, warned that "this is a large push," so developers should expect that "it will take some time to complete".
"If you sync before it's done, you'll get an incomplete copy that you won't be able to use, so please wait for us to give the all-clear before you sync," Queru wrote.
The source code is Android 4.0.1, which is the version that will be released on the Samsung Galaxy Nexus.

The Samsung Galaxy S II and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich? To us that sounds like a killer combination, but while others would probably have to wait until early 2012 when Samsung is expected to roll out the ICS update, you can have it now if you dare flash the MIUI ROM on your S II.
The crafty developers behind one of the most popular mods for Android, have brought ICS, but it's not exactly in its vanilla form. You'd still get MIUI's signature looks and customization and not the neon glow of Android 4.0, so while you lose the UI elements, the functionality is there.

HTC talks patent deals to fight Apple, Android 4.0 updates

HTC outlined some of its Android plans on Monday that included both the courtroom and its products. In a far-ranging briefing, the company's CEO Peter Chou told Reuters his company was "open-minded" to the prospect of buying patents to escalate its fight with Apple. There weren't any specific plans, he said.
The company has so far had a tough time in legal battles with Apple, being found in violation in one complaint and having other attempts shot down. It has only made small gestures towards improving its ability to contest Apple's claims, buying S3 after a patent win and borrowing from Google and Motorola for countersuits.

LG issued a rebuttal on its Facebook page, of the rumors that it will leave the first phone with dual-core chipset, the LG Optimus 2X, out in the cold regarding Android Ice Cream Sandwich.
The ICS update is being planned for testing right now on the Optimus 2X, and will be probed for the other high-end smartphones in LG's portfolio, the company said.

Samsung Italy: Galaxy S II, Galaxy Note and dual-core tablets getting Android 4.0 update

Samsung Italy has apparently confirmed that the company’s high-end devices (i.e. those with a dual-core processor) will all get the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update. In other words, the list of products that will be blessed with the latest version of Android includes:
Galaxy S II
Galaxy Note
Galaxy Tab 10.1
Galaxy Tab 8.9
Galaxy Tab 7.7
Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus
We assume the carrier specific versions of the Galaxy S II will also get the same treatment though not as fast as the unlocked device. Moreover, we would hope to see some of the phones with a fast single-core processor (1.4 GHz) on the list, like the Galaxy W or T-Mobile Exhibit II, but I guess Samsung is still evaluating that option....

Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich not coming to LG Optimus 2X?

Well, this doesn’t bode well for LG. Recently the handset-maker confirmed on Facebookthat the Optimus 2X will not receive the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update, even though it was only released in January of this year. This likely means that the T-Mobile G2X won’t be getting the update, either.
Back when we reviewed the Optimus 2X and T-Mobile G2X, we had very few negative things to say about the dual-core toting handsets. With the Optimus 2X being the first dual-core phone and managing to get itself into the Guinness Book of World Records, the future looked bright for the handset.
