Nokia hasn't inspired much hope for the future of MeeGo and the Nokia N9, but the captivating UI and colorful design might have intrigued you. Now, it appears that the handset is closer to launch as a Kazakhstan-based retailer has it listed as available for August 19th. The off-contract price stands at nearly $685. At the same time, the N9, went up for pre-order in Russia, one of Nokia's traditional markets where the phone expected to sell big.
Just two days ago, the Nokia N9 cleared yet another hurdle on the road to the market by passing FCC certification. It has also recently appeared on various country-specific Nokia websites countering rumors that the phone won't be available at all in m...

Are you one of those smartphone enthusiasts crossing their fingers in hope that the Nokia N9 makes it to the US? Well, none of the nation's major carriers has officially expressed any interest in offering it, but here is something that slightly raises the chances of the N9 touching US soil after all. Nokia's first MeeGo-powered smartphone has cleared the FCC, and like the case is with most handsets that make it through, both external and internal photos are available accompanied by a complete user manual.
Digging through the filing we see something that was pretty much expected, namely that the Nokia N9 boasts support for pentaband 3G connectivity – just like any self-respecting world smartp...

Been too long since your last MeeGo fix? Foursquare's stepping in to hold you over with a video of the popular location-based service on Nokia's upcoming N9. While waiting to get your grubby paws all over Elop's miscarriage, indulge yourself in an updated S40 app -- shown running here on a couple Touch-and-Type devices -- which now features tighter Ovi Maps integration and the heretofore omitted "Explore" function. The inclusions, the company reckons, will help those in emerging markets like South America and Asia grow its ten million over-sharing user base. Glimpses of both can be seen beyond the break along with Foursquare's CEO Naveen Selvadurai musing on all things Finnish.

Nokia N9 is the world's fastest cameraphone, gets the world's fastest ads

The Nokia N9 has not only got the promise of MeeGo – it has also claimed the world's fastest cameraphone title, and now to match that appeal Nokia has come up with the world's fastest ads, Nokia N9 Seconds for its MeeGo smartphone. Each of the six ads in the series runs for only 9 seconds and all are filled with breath-taking cinematric cuts and transitions, easily ranking among the best smartphone ads we've ever seen.
The whole concept revolves around the speed of the swipe-centric MeeGo interface. Each of the videos focuses on a particular feature of the Nokia N9: Swipe, Browsing, Social Media, Maps, Camera and All-screen design. As exciting as it all sounds, though, Nokia's Stephen Elop h...

Nokia N9 might be supported, after all, with several MeeGo updates heading its way

Klas Ström, Nokia's Head of Portfolio Management, tweeted that the Nokia N9 will be supported in the next years, with several software updates for MeeGo in the pipeline.
Not that we were expecting anything else, despite CEO Stephen Elop's claims to the contrary. We just couldn't envision Espoo not maintaining what could turn out a pretty popular niche handset like the Nokia N9, considering all the hopes and efforts Nokia has poured into MeeGo.
Granted, Mr Elop is trying to turn the focus of attention away from Symbian and MeeGo, and towards the upcoming Nokia Windows Phones, so he largely talks about that, but other people at Nokia seem committed to maintain MeeGo, as well as work on the upc...

Nokia N9 photos look REALLY good

Nokia N9 photos look REALLY good

I am not a Nokia fan at all. The only Nokia device I have ever owned was a free phone a carrier gave me years, and years ago with one of my first wireless plans. I am still seeing little that would talk me out of my iPhone or an Android device for a Nokia today. What I will say is Nokia knows how to make a camera phone. The camera on my iPhone sucks to the point that I only use it in a pinch and then the photos are just not very high quality.
Nokia has been talking a lot about the camera module that its new N9 smartphone uses over the last few months. A week or so back we talked about Nokia boasting that the camera on the N9 was the fastest around and that it supported NFC image transfers. T...

The Nokia N9 carries an 8MP camera with the Carl Zeiss brand, a logo that the German optics maker gives only after rigorous testing of the picture quality. The Texas Instruments chipset and the 8MP shooter working in tandem process HD 720p video, which is about the norm for 1GHz handsets.

Nokia claims N9 is 'the fastest image-capturing phone' yet

We've already established that the N9 is a delight of a phone, both inside and out, but our hands-on time with Nokia's new flagship gave us only a brief look at its camera performance. Now the company is graciously filling that gap in our knowledge with some further disclosure about its new 8 megapixel imager, including the lofty claim that the N9 is the fastest phone yet when it comes to capturing an image -- ousting the likes of the iPhone 4, the Galaxy S II, and even the Canon S95, perhaps the best pocket camera around at the moment.

Will the Nokia N9 end up in more than 23 countries?

Last night's introduction of the MeeGo powered Nokia N9 set hearts aflutterin' in many countries, including the U.S. where the initial response was that the device is one sexy handset with the lack of any front-facing buttons at all. With the manufacturer having some problems competing in the U.S. and dropping from its perch as the largest smartphone manufacturer Stateside-a position it had held for the last 14 years-to number three, a launch of the N9 in the U.S. is of vital importance to the manufacturer.

Nokia N9 Gets First Press Shots Leaked

Nokia N9 Gets First Press Shots Leaked

The Nokia N9 is getting ready for its debut tomorrow at the CommunicAsia 2011 event in Singapore and we already know that it may be the “Lannku” that’s been rumored to be a slimline, all-touch device, instead of the QWERTY slider we’ve seen in previous leaks. And if you’re eager to see what this new Meego device looks like, then be happy to know the very first press shots have just leaked.
As you can see, it is clearly different from the aluminum slider we had anticipated. This new Meego device takes on a form factor that’s reminiscent of an iPod nano along with colorful options to boot. Other specs and details on the phone are still scant, but for a phone that’s been relegated mainly for th...

Nokia’s all set to announce something at the CommunicAsia expo in Singapore, and all signs are saying that it’s the MeeGo-powered N9. The N9 has shape-shifted a few times in its laps around the rumor mill, having started life as a QWERTY-slider and, as shown in this leaked press shot acquired by PocketNow, eventually ending up as a lil’ slab-o-glass. No word yet on any sort of specs or details beyond what’s pictured, though it’ll also come in baby blue and black hues for anyone not down with the Salmony-pink.
What’s that, you say? You thought Nokia was done with MeeGo, and was all about Windows Phone 7 now? You’re mostly right. From what Nokia VP of Product Marketing Ilari Nurmi is saying, N...
