Apple iPad 2 Pro Reviews

PC Pro‘s review Edit

It’s thinner, lighter and more powerful than the first iPad, with better battery life to boot - but the cameras are a big let down

Considering lag was never an issue on the original iPad, the new version is sure to keep up the pace with double the memory and a dual-core processor. Even though the cameras are less-than-spectacular, it's nice to have at least the front one around for the occasional FaceTime call. All in all, the iPad 2 is a great tablet and a great successor to the first generation.

AnandTech‘s review Edit

If you don't fall into the borderline camp then the decision is pretty simple. If you need a tablet that runs iOS today, the iPad 2 is great. If you're not sure, you should wait. Tablets are still a couple of generations from being really amazing. Everything between now and then are just steps along the way.

The iconic iPad is now thinner, faster, and just plain better. Seamless hardware and interface design, plus an unparalleled ecosystem of apps, keep the iPad 2 a step ahead of the emerging tablet pack.

Phone Arena‘s review Edit

As much as Apple touts its wonderfully new slimmer design, which we openly agree as being eye catching, one of the most alluring things about the iPad 2 is its spot on pricing. At $500 for the entry-level model, you’re presented with a fantastic looking tablet that’s filled with plenty of goodies to make it a worthy successor. Although it might not be a dramatic leap over its original in terms of pure hardware upgrades, it’s fittingly more in line as being an evolutionary step for the line. In addition, there’s no arguing that Apple is going to sell a boatload of iPad 2s, especially when they have a tight grasp on the market right now in this category, but there is one alarming concern that we have.

MacNN‘s review Edit

We'll reiterate that unless you've been dreaming of a day where the iPad comes with cameras, or you can simply afford to upgrade early, we wouldn’t recommend trading in an original iPad. Where the iPad 2 excels is in attracting newcomers. It's an extremely fluid, portable, complete experience that just isn't coming from its competitors, and it's now encroaching on areas once reserved for full-fledged computers. If you haven't taken the plunge into tablet computing, this is the perfect time to get your feet wet, and the iPad 2 is, at least in 2011, the tablet of choice.

TechRadar UK‘s review Edit

For all the negatives, for now we think the iPad 2 is still the best tablet around. It is much better for consuming media, has more compelling apps (especially for the larger tablet size), has a better app store ecosystem, and is light and useable.

PC Magazine‘s review Edit

The clear standout in the ever-widening sea of tablets, the Apple iPad 2 brings a slimmer design, faster processing, dual cameras, and FaceTime video chat to a tablet that already had a leg up on the competition.

SlashGear‘s review Edit

For everyone else, though, Apple has put together a superbly capable, class-shaping tablet, which can now legitimately take on not only other slates but lighter ereaders such as Amazon’s Kindle. The iPad 2 benefits from Apple’s cohesive hardware and software development together with the vast third-party developer support of the App Store, consistent and simple to use in equal measure. Apple’s vision of the post-PC world isn’t quite here yet – the iPad 2 still works best with, and at times demands, integration with a “proper” computer – but when it comes to tablets the iPad 2 maintains its position at the vanguard of the market.

These are just a few of our impressions after spending some time in a room packed with journalists and a few iPad 2 demo units. We'll have much more to say, obviously, when the iPad 2 arrives and we write our full review.
