Apple iPad 2 Pro Reviews

PC Advisor‘s review Edit

Overall the iPad 3 is a decent upgrade from the iPad 2 in a number of key areas. The retina quality display is the most impressive and there’s a faster processor and better cameras. 4G connectivity is handy if you want that feature. All this for roughly the same price refurbished makes this a no brainer.

Overall the new iPad is a decent upgrade from the iPad 2 in a number of key areas. The retina quality display is the most impressive and there’s a faster processor and better cameras. 4G connectivity is a good upgrade but irrelevant for UK users at the moment. Apple has managed all this and stuck to the same price points as the iPad 2 and maintained the 10 hour battery life.

The iPad defined a new category of personal computing and inspired many a me-too offering. The iPad 2 isn't the next step in the evolution of the media tablet - Apple still has flaws to fix - but there's no question it's better than its predecessor - and a lot of its rivals.

Being the newest kid on the block definitely has its advantages, and it really shows with the HTC Jetstream as it excels in shooting photos & videos, packs support for AT&T’s 4G LTE network, and incorporates HTC Scribe Technology. Moreover, the HTC Sense for tablet experience offers a lot of usefulness with its depth – despite its choppy appearance at times. Even in the face of stiff competition, the iPad 2 remains the most relevant tablet on the market thanks to its eye-catching looks and well-rounded performance. However, pricing is always something that can dictate success or failure with any product.

The only issue with the iPad’s enviable marriage of content and usability is if you don’t want to be stuck with using Apple software. But for everything else, it’s the master and benchmark.

Both the iPad 2 and Asus Eee Pad Transformer are flat-out great products. They're desirable, well-priced, powerful and versatile in different ways. There are aspects we haven't covered - like the cameras - but they're things we don't feel should really be central to your buying decision (The Transformer offers higher-spec sensors, but they're not much cop either).

Phone Arena‘s review Edit

Now that we’ve compared all the various aspects of both tablets, we ultimately have to go back to the drawing board and look at what’s offered at face value between the two – mainly because they flaunt the same $500 pricing. If this were a fashion show, there’s no denying the fact that the iPad 2 would win with its impressive industrial design, premium choice of materials, and its razor thin profile. Moreover, it offers the functionality of being able to shoot photos and videos as well – even if it’s not something that’s highly prized by some people. The iPad 2 is every bit worth the $500 it’s priced at – whereas the TouchPad seems to be overpriced with its offerings. We’re not saying that the iPad 2 hits the high marks in all categories, but it’s far more refined in almost every way imaginable to make that $500 price point more than suitable.

Phone Arena‘s review Edit

Literally, it’s a coin toss between the two mainly because they are priced evenly and have their own unique strengths that appeal to certain individuals out there. In terms of design though, we know that the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 has the prestigious title of being the thinnest and lightest, but when thinking about their starting price of $500, the iPad 2’s thin profile, solid construction, and choice of premium materials radiates more value for the buck. However, Android 3.1 Honeycomb on the Galaxy Tab 10.1 offers a higher degree of personalization, better implementation of notifications, and an integrated experience that’s barely contested by the iPad 2. Additionally, Samsung’s tablet is the go-to device if you’re intimately interested in shooting photos and videos. In the end, it’s truly the platform experience that vastly separates the two, but no matter which way you dissect it, both are undoubtedly regarded as being the top contenders in this ever-growing tablet space right now.

Geeky Gadgets‘s review Edit

Overall the iPad 2 is a great tablet, Apple have basically added enough new features and changed the design to make the upgrade to a new iPad 2 appealing to many, there are a couple of things that we would have liked to see in the new iPad 2, the main one would be a higher resolution display, but we suspect that will arrive in the iPad 3.

Apple is not pursuing the “absolute” performance/features crown. There are more powerful tablets out there -like the Motorola Xoom- and more will come out. However, the iPad 2 is an excellent tablet computer that addresses the usage models that customers are willing to pay for, at a price point and with a design that competitors simply can’t match, especially in the entry-level segment.

Until other manufacturers step into the ring and show us what they've got (we're looking at you Hewlett-Packard and Research In Motion), we have to declare Apple's iPad 2 the current champ.

Notebookcheck‘s review Edit

In the end, the all-important question remains: Which tablet is worth buying? Even if our suspicions were confirmed in the run of our tests, here again briefly the most valid arguments: We still consider Apple's iPad clearly at the front regarding the case. The other manufacturer's have obviously tried, but can't come close to the unibody chassis. Android is definitely in the lead in terms of connectivity. Apple's closed system is cause for frustration in many situations, especially for the advanced user. Tablet newbies will be rewarded with a perfect, intuitive to use and above all secure system (constant synchronization with iTunes) in return. In addition, there is a user-friendly and developed infrastructure in form of the App Store. As to operation, we once again regard the iPad 2 in the lead.

Apple iPad 2The iPad 2 is the most complete tablet on the market thanks to the Apple ecosystem of devices, apps and iTunes. The ecosystem is also the primary reason the Apple iPad 2 is the best tablet. That it is thin, slick and incredibly well built only adds to its appeal.

TechSpot‘s review Edit

Apple set out to reinvent the tablet user experience and judging by the overwhelming success of the iPad, I would say they have succeeded. As incredible as today's tablets are, the truth is that we are only at the infancy of tablet computing. So where does the form factor go from here? Aside from the obvious answers of thinner, lighter and more powerful, it's anyone's guess really. We will continue to see various display sizes and connectivity options. If 3D display technology really takes off in the coming years, we could possibly see that implemented into future tablets. On the business side of things, I think something like Microsoft's Courier, a failed dual screen tablet prototype, could really spice things up. And of course, let's not forget the software, the future is all about the software.

What should iPad 1 users do? In our opinion, an upgrade to the second generation is not worth the money, unless the video conferencing feature is a must for the buyer, or he/she needs the increased performance for certain apps. For all other users, upgrading to iPad 2 would just result in a slight increase in comfort when using the tablet/MID.

The new iPad 2 is lighter, faster, slimmer and a lot more feature-laden than the original iPad. This is not merely a midterm upgrade designed to bridge the original iPad with the future iPad 3 – this is a significant upgrade to the iPad and worthwhile in its own right.

GSMArena‘s review Edit

Android Honeycomb is quite a looker, has almost none of the restrictions of the iOS and is already reaping the benefits of a solid developer community. It has its flaws too – the Market has still to catch up, developers need to accommodate different resolutions and hardware differences. Android Honeycomb is a dedicated tablet platform while iPads use an upscaled smartphone OS. Droid tablets will certainly get an edge from an OS designed from ground up to make better use of screen estate. But it’s Apple that seems to be a step ahead of the competition so far. Like it or not, Apple has done it again.

Don't forget that the original iPad 3G can still be found on Apple's Refurb Store, starting at £389. It's still a perfectly good iPad, and as our tests show, it isn't slower at browsing the net than Apple's latest iPad 2 on the 3G network, it's just not quite as thin and doesn't have a camera.

Without the majority of the tablet competition yet available it's hard to definitively call the iPad 2 the best of this generation. However, it's here, it's good and it's well priced, all of which gives the competition even more to live up to when they finally arrive. The iPad 2 is still just a toy - we can't believe that anyone could need an iPad - but that's okay; if you can afford a shiny expensive extravagance, why not buy the best available?

Seamless hardware and interface design, plus an unparalleled ecosystem of apps, keep the iPad 2 a step ahead of the emerging tablet pack. You'll want to be aware of some important factors, though, before picking a data carrier.

The iPad 2 refines an already excellent product. Its easy-to-use interface, vast app catalog, and marathon battery life bolster Apple's claim to being the king of tablets.

Gizmodo‘s review Edit

Basically everything that was good about the iPad is better. Except for the screen (which is better than before, but not higher res). At the risk of overstating it, the extra speed is non-trivial—it isn't simply a matter of apps loading faster or performing better in the abstract, but the basically instant response and speed of action lends an air of verisimilitude to everything you do. (Also, Infinity Blade looks way better!)

Ultimately, there’s no arguing the fact that these two are the most highly regarded tablets right now on the market. And even when newer ones decide to come around to test their legacy, you can still sit back knowing that these two will still stand prominently over the course of the next year. These aren’t devices that only meet the criteria of being a good tablet; in fact, they push forward in setting the bar for everything else moving forward.

The second generation iPad is a revision of the original, and it's a shame the screen hasn't been upgraded. The cameras produce fairly poor quality video and photos, but the new processor is an improvement as is the lighter weight.
