Enjoying the Storm2

I had the original Storm which liked but I went thru 6 of them because the screen kept losing it's "click". Finally I got VZW to replace it with a Storm2 which is a HUGE improvement over the S1. The screen is fantastic now and it clicks even better with newer OS's. I currently am running the latest leak of 5.0.0.451 with the Seanren v6 Hybrid installed over it and wow is it awesome! The screen clicks amazingly and it is very fast with over 15 apps installed along with a custom theme. Now we just need the webkit browser!!! The WiFi is huge for me as I dont get the best VZW signal at home and battery life is fantastic for me.
I do admit I am being lured towards the Android OS - particularly the Nexus One coming at some point to VZW. But you cannot beat messaging on a BB...

The Storm 2 is definitely a big upgrade from the Storm when you compare the 3 major differences between the two. The original Storm with 5.0.0.328 software runs as smooth and well as the Storm 2 with it 5.0.0.320 software. However, the software is not all that makes a device.

The first major overhaul for the Storm 2 was the screen. The original Storm was plagued by inconsistent clicking. The Storm 2 solved most of those issues by going to 4 electronically controlled buttons as opposed to the single mechanical button on the Storm. The screen does not click as deep as the original but it is very tight and consistent from corner to corner making typing very enjoyable.

The second change is the expanded application memory. The Storm 2 doubled the memory of the original giving you much more room for applications with much less need for battery pulls to clear the leaked memory.

The third change is the addition of wifi. You can now have simultaneous connections to both the wireless network as well as a wifi network. This is a big plus for anyone that has tried to download a file larger than 3 mb and gotten the error telling you it is too big to download OTA. Downloading over wifi is unlimited and there is no limit on the size of the file that can be downloaded.

Overall I highly recommend the Storm 2 to anyone that wants a highly advance smartphone with a unique touchscreen.

I love the storm2, there is nothing better out there yet.I would defineatly recommend to others. The screen alone is a big plus. You really get used to the touch screen in a hurry. the learning curve is small.

What the Storm 1 should have been

I'm not a fan of touch screen phones because they're quite difficult to type on proficiently. However the Storm 2 (not the original) gives you an almost addicting feedback while typing. If you've tried the Storm 1 you'll know that its screen feels weak and almost breakable, the Storm 2 makes it quite solid. If your torn between a qwerty blackberry and this, you'll be very satisfied with this device

The storm 2 is what the storm 1 should have been before launch with the increased memory and the 5.0 software the device performs beautifully. I enjoy on the storm line to touch screen where you aren't selecting until you actually press the screen in it makes pressing the wrong application or link in a website a non exisitent problem. The media player on the device while it doesnt have any frills does work sufficient to play my music with no distortion and using the blackberry media sync application it syncs with my itunes. The camera seems to work better on the storm 1, sometimes on the storm2 I get a blurred image with washed out coloring.

  • Pros

  • more ram than storm 1 makes for a very noticeable boost in performance
  • more memory = more storage for apps
  • bigger memory card = more media I can carry
  • Cons

  • pictures are sometimes washed out and a little blurry
  • the os is very rigid you are only going to get a grid layout of apps no matter what adjustments you make it would be great if we had widget options
