NOKIA 5800 XpressMusic Pro Reviews

expertreviews‘s review Edit

Nokia's 5800 is nowhere near as pretty, though. It's brick-shaped, with the sides and bottom slightly tapered towards the rear. The front has a rim around the edge that protects the screen if you place it face-down, and the rear, where the camera lens is located, has a subtle pin-stripe design. It won't win any design awards, but it fits snugly in the hand.

reghardware‘s review Edit

As the first mainstream touchscreen phone from the world’s number one phone maker, the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic does an effective job at translating the S60 UI into a touch-sensitive world. It’s functional, responsive and perfectly good to use, though it doesn’t have the elegant fluidity and intuitiveness that the iPhone introduced and other systems are now aspiring to. It’s distinctly a Nokia smartphone with touch operation more than an iPhone clone. Nokia may still have some way to go with touchscreen technology, but this device looks destined to become another Nokia chart-topper.

PC Advisor‘s review Edit

The Nokia 5800 is by no means an iPhone replacement, but if you're not into the iPhone and you want a good music handset with a decent camera, this might be the one for you, especially if you get the handset bundled with Nokia's Comes With Music offer, which gives you unlimited music downloads for a year. Also, given the recent firmware upgrade, it seems that Nokia is actively working to improve the phone's features and responsiveness.

Geeky Gadgets‘s review Edit

Overall the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic does a good job as a mobile phone, and the media player is good, but it is not as much fun to use as the iPhone.

TechRadar UK‘s review Edit

With the 5800 XpressMusic Nokia has evolved its S60 smartphone legacy into a very serviceable touchscreen format. Practical evolution rather than jaw-dropping revolution is what you get. While it doesn't have the smoothness and easy elegance of the iPhone's ground-breaking touchscreen user interface, Nokia's first mainstream touch control device has a functional, easy to handle set-up, and performs consistently well.

The Nokia 5800 XpressMusic mobile phone managed to surprise me positively. This phone can be used for many more applications than just playing music. Granted, the design does have to be your cup of tea, but nothing is wrong with the phone itself. The Symbian software runs smoothly and fast, and makes the handset very user-friendly.

Nokia's answer to the iPhone is a big disappointment: it's fiddly, plain and seriously lacking in inspiration.

The Nokia 5800 XpressMusic is slated as the first in a series of touchscreen devices from Nokia. As a first effort it's both encouraging and a disappointment. Encouraging because the hardware and some of the software just fit very well. The Contacts Bar homescreen, excellent battery life, and multimedia facilities put just about every other smartphone on its heels.Nevertheless, inconsistencies in the interface, too many input options, and not enough optimized software set the 5800XM back where it really should be ahead. It needs just a little more polish all around.

I don't think the market leaders Apple, Samsung and LG, need to worry just yet. S60-plus-touch has a little way to go before it can rival the bottom up interface designs which handsets from those companies offer. But I can see how the touchscreen could really help Nokia up its game at the higher end of the phone market, and I look forward to seeing the idea in full flight.

Softpedia‘s review Edit

I have been pleasantly surprised by the first Nokia device to feature a touch interface. While the design is good, after 2 days of using it I have found that the UI seems to be in development. If Nokia wants to be in the lead on the touchscreen handsets it needs something much better than Nokia 5800 XpressMusic.

GSMArena‘s review Edit

Now, it's technically not the first time Nokia get their hands dirty with touch screens, but it sure feels they really mean business this time. For Nokia 5800 is not the only story here. The smart platform with the most influential touch receives its first trial by touch. Being the first device running Series 60 5th alone is enough for the 5800 to be remembered by.
