Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 Pro Reviews

ITreviews‘s review Edit

The Xperia X1 looks stunning and on paper it packs a lot of features. We like the hardware design and the high resolution screen. But the ‘panels' idea is a bit of a let-down and its slow running proved very frustrating at times.

The Xperia X1 was one of the most anticipated smart phone of 2008. It came to the market very late, but it's never too late to play with it and publish our findings. Let's provide some context: The Xperia X1 is Sony Ericsson's first Windows Mobile smart phone and is the leading model in an "Xperia" family that will grow overtime. Among its numerous qualities, two set it apart from the Windows Mobile crowd: metal construction and panel-based interface.

Costly and fiddly to use, despite a decent keyboard and high-resolution screen.

The Xperia X1 is the first Windows Mobile smartphone from Sony Ericsson. It's an ambitious start: a WVGA touchscreen, built-in keyboard, GPS, 3G, and a host of other high-end features.

www.trustedreviews.com‘s review Edit

We had expected great things from the Xperia X1. In terms of the hardware it certainly lives up to the hype as it's a great looking phone and packed full of useful features. However, the hardware is really hamstrung by the phone's operating system and the X Panel interface that Sony Ericsson has added is over the top. At the end of the day when you pay a premium price (this is an expensive handset after all) you expect premium performance and the Xperia simply doesn't deliver that premium experience on the software side.

While we had some problems with our initial Xperia X1, in the end we were fairly impressed by Sony Ericsson's first foray into the world of Windows Mobile.

Softpedia‘s review Edit

There's no doubt about it, X1 is one of the best smartphones on the market in terms of performance, as you can see from the benchmarks I ran. Without the TouchFLO 3D user interface the device is fast and doesn't freeze, but this comes at the price of keeping the same boring Windows Mobile interface. Fortunately, the level of customization offered by Sony Ericsson solves pretty much all the troubles.

GSMArena‘s review Edit

There's a lot to fall for in Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1. Possibly the hottest looker of a PocketPC is also heavy on skill. Heavy enough to not just scratch out a living as a one-hit-wonder but aim for the WinMo top.

PC World‘s review Edit

Sony Ericsson's first Windows Mobile device, the Xperia X1, got a lot of buzz last year for its slick and customizable software interface and stylish design. Although the Sony Xperia X1 is a feature-packed, well-designed handset with excellent performance, its assets don't warrant its sky-high price...

Phone Arena‘s review Edit

Windows Mobile has always been a powerful but clunky OS, but recently we’ve seen manufacturer efforts to clean it up and make it more user-friendly. Sony Ericsson has thus far stayed out of the WinMo realm, but with the Xperia X1 they are making a splash on both fronts. They have developed a new panel interface to match the X1’s svelte design. It has the rich feature set you’d expect from a high-end device, with many connectivity options and...
