Roku coming to UK and Ireland at end of January

Posted on Jan 11, 2012 by MG15

Now that Netflix has launched in UK and Ireland, Roku has announced its first set-top boxes for release across the pond. The Roku LT and Roku XS are expected to ship at the end of January through Amazon.co.uk for £49.99 and £99.99, respectively — a pre-order page is live for LT, while the XS' page is currently pointing to a third-party vendor with a slightly higher-than-suggested retail price. In addition to Netflix, the company promises more than 40 content channels including MLB.TV, Facebook, Flickr, WSJ, FoxNews.com, and Crackle (UK only). Plus Angry Birds for the premium model. Additional retailers will be announced later.

Besides being more energy efficient, it brings new channels including Angry Birds, Epix, MLS and more, while also upgrading the Netflix experience with support for subtitles, surround sound and 1080p video. The pricing tiers of $60 (HD), $80 (XD) and $100 (XS) remain; while stepping...
