I got this laptop for when I go to college this fall. I never had a mac before and it was a little difficult to get used to it versus the windows interface. It has yet to freeze up on me and is easier to see what I am running on the internet.
After using Macs to design my high school yearbook, I struggled with Windows OS for years before receiving my Macbook from my boyfriend (now my husband) for Christmas 3 years ago. I'll never go back to Windows, although I do have bootcamp with XP on my Macbook so I can run a few programs. I love that pressing F9 lets me see all the open windows I have going on - I tend to have a lot open at once, and this is SO much easier than having to maximize a bunch of windows to see which one I need.
I just have fallen in love with it. have it for last 6 months and wonders about its every perfection. it wasn't Windows based. The MacBook is very nice, and easy to use Laptop.cheapest computer i've own if i think about it.The screen is great and also the keyboard
After my HP laptop crashed for the zillionth time, I took a ride to Best Buy for a new laptop with 2 requirements, #1 that the keyboard was lighted, and #2 that it wasn't Windows based... that of course limited me to the MacBook. It's been almost a year now and I am so thrilled with this computer, it's never once crashed on me and always works as expected. Only reason why I'm only rating a 9 is because mine didn't come with a SD card slot.
i have had mine for over two years and have yet to see any real problems with it, i will probably upgrade to a macbook pro next june but im sure this one will live until then for sure. its a great comp.
I got this computer for college almost 3 years ago. Overall I'd have to say that this is a great computer. I've crashed 2 hard drives, but thats expected out of a computer that gets as much use as my macbook, and it took 2 hard drives for me to realize to back up my files! The hard drives were covered under warranty, got it fixed for free, no big deal. Overall you get the beautiful mac OS for way cheaper and you can beat it.

Pros
Mac OS X
NOT WINDOWS!!!!!!
Cons
limits of microsoft office (no access or database)
I got this computer when I graduated from high school and was the perfect computer to take to college. I have the black 13.3 inch model and upgraded the OS to Snow Leopard and it has had no problems software wise. In my sophomore year of college my hard drive died and needed replaced but since I had 3 years of Apple Care, they replaced my Hard drive for free and installed a new keyboard for free because they said mine looked like it was "Fading". Wish mine would have the aluminum body like the new ones because a few pieces of plastic have broken off but didn't affect performance a bit. Very good computer for general use.
I had the original macbook intel core duo, which I bought used when it was 4 years old. I sold it about a year and a half later because I upgraded to a macbook pro unibody, in total i lost less than 300 in my purchase, cheapest computer i've own if i think about it.
I've had my Macbook for not too long. The physical quality of it isn't good. It's been falling apart, and I'm careful with it. I tend not to take it anywhere outside of my house. It also gets dirty very easily because of it's white color. I'd suggest getting something else. I'm not impressed with it!
The MacBook is very nice, and easy to use Laptop. I've found that it's served me well for my needs. Sometimes though it bothers me that it's not easier to get upgraded equipment for it. You also pay a lot for a "Mac" vs. a just as good Windows Laptop.
Apple can make better notebooks....truly dissapointed by the performance. tough the screen and multimedia is good. but not at all user friendly. pc is easy to use. mac book not for professionals :( The screen is great and also the keyboard
I just purchased my first MacBook a couple of weeks ago. It is a great product. It is not difficult to switch from a PC to a MacBook. It is much faster than a PC. It offers many great applications not available on a PC. The screen is great and also the keyboard. I would recommend a Mac Book to anyone.
I have had a macbook for almost three years. I cannot use any other computer. The design, even of the older macbooks, is sleek and timeless. The design is not only pretty but durable, as I have dropped my mac a few times from a 3-4 ft height. OS X is seemless and just gets better. Even with the new unibody macbooks available, I don't feel as though I am getting left behind.
three years later this mac is faster and runs better than my pc. i have tons of music pictures and files on my mac. i've never had a problem with it being slow or not working. never once have i gotten a virus. i will never go back to a pc
I got this Macbook for Christmas and I love it, I've got everything, and more, than I did on my PC. I can upload Itunes to my Blackberry, I love the multitouch. Only problem is that the screen gets marked easily, but it's cleanable...
This was my main Christmas present in '08. I have used it basically everyday since. It is great for my first laptop and I use it for all my school work, listen to music, and mostly I am on the internet. Occasionally I look at some pictures in iPhoto and I do make some movies with iMovie and put them on YouTube. But I want Final Cut pro to edit.
There hasn't been any major problems that I have had with it in the year + I've had it. Only thing thats wrong now is the loose trackpad but it isn't to much of problem. Also sometimes the LEDs flash but it is fine. The display is simply beautiful and the aluminum casing is sturdy as ever! No slow downs whatsoever. I LOVE MY MACBOOK!
Only thing I hate is the battery life, which is problem due to me over charging by accident.
This is one of the best computers i have ever used. Apple is such a trustworthy and customer friendly company that makes awesome products like this mac book. I have upgraded from a old dinosaur or Dell and this is just like wow. This has everything you want in a laptop.
The MacBook is the best computer hands down. Its fast, well built, and has amazing applications. It allows you to do so much more out of the box than a pc ever does, which makes buying a pc look really dumb. Apple has a made a really amazing computer.
I had this macbook for 2 yrs already and I absolutely love it. This was my first mac purchase and I did the right thing. I have nothing against windows, but I just love the way mac operates. It's easy and I don't have to worry about viruses as much. It has very good security.
I've been using laptops for over 10 years and I've had IBMs, HPs, Acer and now a Macbook that I acquired in Dec 08. It is one of the aluminum 13" Intel Core 2 Duo units and it is hands down the best laptop I've ever used.
I'm an IT professional who is basically a Windows guy, but I've found the Mac OS to be really great and useful as a home user. I personally prefer Windows for work, but we have a few Macs on the network in our creative areas. For design work they are unmatched.
For the money you get a lot of laptop, but it is a lot of money! Even so, with the Intel processor Macbooks you get Boot Camp, which allows you to dual boot your Mac with Windows. This single application is what makes this the best laptop I've ever used, because I can run Windows 7 along with OS-X and have the best of both worlds!
Windows for work and OSX for my personal use. Nice!
I have used 4 Compaq laptops, 5 Dell laptops, 3 Apple laptops, 1 HP laptop and 2 Sony laptops in my past 6 years all ranging from $1000 to $1500 except powerbook which was $2400. Until now 15" powerbook was my best laptop and the most costly too. when i heard about macbook I went and got myself one and was hoping it would at least perform like powerbook because I feel Apple maintains quality and finish of the product. I am using this macbook and I can say that it's the best laptop I have ever used from both performance and quality points of view. I am comparing it to a Compaq which I got just about 15 days back and which cost me almost $182 more then this laptop. It had a 1.66 ghz core duo a intel Graphics card and a dvd burner. The only thing that's better about the Compaq is that its DVD burner is faster. Other wise every thing about the Macbook make the Compaq feel like a cheap laptop. The screen is better, battery life is better: it almost gave me 5 hours of better life. Keyboard is better to type, it has an optical out for sound and that makes sound way better than the Compaq which has analog out. I tested both machines on my home theater system and the Macbook's sound is just mind blowing. I shouldn't even talk about built quality and finish because it leaves Compaq miles behind in that. It is the best laptop I have ever used and for so much less, I would say it's a bargain. If it only had a dedicated graphics card i would have give it a 10. I also wish that apple started making 2 button trackpads. Overall it's the best laptop for below $1500 to buy.
I am one of those first time Mac owners who migrated from a PC. I cannot say enough great things about my MacBook! Many hardcore PC users view Macs as a status symbol or a "cool" thing however, using a mac is far beyond those stereotypes . The features and performance of my Mac far outrun any PC I have ever used and my Mac fulfills my college purposes greatfully. I would recommend a MacBook to anyone!

only one thing - MacBook base model doesnt have a lit keyboard
This is the best that cupertino has ever put out. Great battery life, backlit keyboard, solid aluminum chassis. Every detail has been thought and re-thought. Now to be fair this is my wife's computer, but this is what i suggested she buy so i get some credit right? My sister-in-law just bought one yesterday, has never used macs before, and i have yet to receive any calls about tech support! The glass trackpad on this is a game changer. Use it and use two fingers to scroll.... you wont be able to go back, you cant!
