Apple MacBook unibody Pro Reviews

PC Magazine‘s review Edit

The rejuvenated Apple MacBook (Unibody) ($999 direct) has had a major overhaul, as it now comes with Unibody enclosure similar to that of MacBook Pro laptops. And like all of Apple's "Unibodies," a sealed-in battery, the gesture-based glass touchpad, and parts from Nvidia and Intel are all part of the package. All this is for less than $1,000, the only Apple laptop available at this price.

PC Advisor‘s review Edit

There’s a very slight performance increase introduced by the 2.4GHz processor, but where the Apple MacBook really scores is in increased battery life, and a graphics controller that usefully expands the gaming possibilities of this laptop. As a complete package, with its safer and more stable OS X operating system, and huge multi-touch trackpad unmatched in the Windows world, the Apple MacBook earns a worthy recommendation for anyone looking for a reliable, easy-to-use portable. It remains a fast and enjoyable-to-use laptop and we’d argue it’s the best value notebook under £1000.

PC Magazine‘s review Edit

With improved battery life and more graphics power, the Apple MacBook (Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz) is a nice value proposition for those who don't need the extras - like SD card slot, backlit keyboard, or aluminum design - offered by the MacBook Pro.

Apple slightly revamps its basic MacBook with improvements under the hood, but keeps the design and price the same, which makes the new MacBook tough to beat as a back-to-school laptop.

Thanks to its good battery life, low system noise and outstanding input devices, the MacBook strikes us as an excellent portable companion. The only thing that particularly disappoints us is the lack of a matt display for easier outdoor use.

Budget-minded shoppers will get much of the experience of the excellent MacBook Pro line in this less-expensive Apple laptop, but weigh the trade-offs carefully.

SlashGear‘s review Edit

If you’re weighing the new MacBook or the entry-level 13-inch MacBook Pro, unless you require high color accuracy (in which case you’re likely using a larger, external display) right now we’d plump for the MacBook. Apple will inevitably roll out an updated Pro range reasonably early into 2010, but as it stands you’re getting pretty much the same key specifications in the MacBook, only for $200 less.

TechRadar UK‘s review Edit

Overall, the mid-2010 refresh is a useful update for the MacBook. An incremental processor boost and a significantly better graphics chipset makes it good value for money, despite the small price increase.

PC Advisor‘s review Edit

While we lament the loss of a high-speed FireWire port, the new multi-touch trackpad, case design and faster components should more than compensate for most users. Cheaper 13in notebooks can be found but none will match the thoughtful design and sheer usability of this revised MacBook.

A design improvement and a decent specification, but we still prefer its Pro cousin

Pocket-lint‘s review Edit

The MacBook white doesn't have the wow factor of the aluminium unibody MacBook models. As an entry point for Apple's notebook line it is relatively well specced against some PC rivals, but does come in at a price that might draw you back to the Windows family. Whilst it looks like good value against the Pro, it also highlights just how expensive the step-up model is. Such is the case with Apple products, and even with Windows 7's enhancements, we still think that the MacBook is worth the price if you are looking for a portable machine that presents a welcome balance between design, power and stability.

For $999, it's hard to beat this MacBook's nearly MacBook-Pro-level specs if you're in the market for a budget Apple laptop.

If you really can’t afford the 13in MacBook Pro, the rehabilitated MacBook is an excellent alternative. Given the choice, however, we'd still recommend the Pro since its benefits outweigh the meagre price difference.

If you're shopping for a new low-cost MacBook then Apple's latest white 13-inch MacBook might be the perfect choice. This MacBook starts at $999 and is equipped with the latest NVIDIA integrated graphics and 2.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor inside an attractive plastic shell.

While it's neither the less-expensive entry-level MacBook some had hoped for, nor the long-rumored touch-screen device, the new 13-inch MacBook can now escape its designation as the lone holdover system from Apple's previous generation, thanks to an upscale makeover that keeps the price stable at just under the $1,000 mark...
