If our review scared you off of the HP TouchPad with webOS you may want to give the tablet a second chance, as buying the device from HP directly this weekend will net you a $100 discount.
The deal, first reported by PreCentral, says buying the 16 GB TouchPad directly from HP.com from Aug. 5-7 will get you the $100 instant rebate but it looks like the 32 GB model will still have the full cost. The retail store Staples will be doling out a $100 coupon for either version of the webOS tablet but that will also only last through the weekend.
Of course, one has to wonder why the sudden discount. The HP TouchPad was killed in reviews because the software just wasn’t ready and the hardware seemed j...

HP TouchPad owners reporting cracks appearing in the device's plastic housing

HP TouchPad owners reporting cracks appearing in the device's plastic housing

It has come to our attention that a number of HP TouchPad owners are having troubles with their tablet. Unfortunately, it is not a software glitch that can be easily fixed with a patch – the issue revolves around cracks in the plastic housing of the device right in between the speakers of the unit and its display or around its headphone socket. The cracks have not been reported to have affected the tablet's functionality in any way so far, yet you would probably agree that such an imperfection is unacceptable when one drops $500 on a brand name gadget.
Reportedly, HP is already aware of the situation and is offering replacement TouchPads to its customers. Those who have contacted the company...

Great news for all HP TouchPad owners out there – the webOS-powered tablet is about to be treated to a software update this week. That is, of course, if the rumors that are circulating on the web turn out to be true.
According to the said rumors, the HP TouchPad will be receiving an OTA update to webOS 3.0.2, and the improvements that it is expected to bring are anything but merely superficial. First of all, users will be able to get movies and music straight to their TouchPads via the HP Movie Store and HP Music Store apps that are about to be added. The Amazon Kindle and Amazon MP3 apps are also said to be arriving to the tablet at some point this month. Besides that, the email app will b...

Amazon and Best Buy drop pricing on HP TouchPad

Amazon and Best Buy drop pricing on HP TouchPad

Posted on Jul 14, 2011 by MG1

Amazon and Best Buy have both dropped their pricing on the 16GB and 32GB models of HP’s new TouchPad tablet. Amazon customers can now pick up a 16GB model for $489.99 or a 32GB model for $572.65, down from $499.99 and $599.99, respectively. Similarly, Best Buy is now offering the 32GB model for $579.99. We’re not surprised by the price drops. In our recent review of the TouchPad, we said it’s “just good” in its current state and that the original pricing was OK if you had the patience for the tablet. At least now you’ll be able to save a few bucks for the nifty Touchstone charging dock.
