64GB and 4G HP TouchPads landing in August according to leaked roadmap
Like UnlikeFiled in: NotebooksHPTouchPad
According to a purported roadmap image obtained by PreCentral, HP will introduce a new 64GB version of its TouchPad this August alongside a 4G model on AT&T. The 64GB model will apparently offer a “glossy white” finish and could come equipped with a dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor that’s clocked at 1.5GHz. AT&T’s 4G TouchPad is expected to come in a black finish and will offer support for the carrier’s HSPA+ network, but will maintain the 32GB capacity of the Wi-Fi model that launched last week. While early reports suggested that HP’s new 7-inch TouchPad, codenamed “Opal,” would launch in August, PreCentral says the tablet is expected to launch in the fall instead.

HP offers $50 off purchase of TouchPad to webOS early adopters
Like UnlikeFiled in: NotebooksHPTouchPad
Those of you who took a chance on webOS early on and bought a Palm Pre, Pre Plus, Pixi, or Pixi Plus will be rewarded for your efforts in the form of a $50 discount on a new 32GB TouchPad tablet from HP.
HP is sending out emails to those early adopters offering them a $50 mail-in rebate with the purchase of a new 32GB TouchPad. Purchases must be made by July 31, and proof of purchase of one of the aforementioned phones will be required, so you had better have saved that possibly two-year-old receipt. The details of the offer will be in the emails that users receive, so if you are a current (or former) webOS soldier, check your inbox and maybe your spam filter too.
It's nice to see HP rewardi...

HP seeks NFC engineer for 'smartphone and tablet products'
Like UnlikeFiled in: NotebooksCell PhonesHP
HP's mystery-wrapped Touch-to-share functionality already does something very similar to Near Field Communication, but it looks like the company's not satisfied with its own tech and will be jumping into the rapidly growing field of companies embracing NFC. A new job listing that has popped up online this week invites applications for the position of NFC Design Engineer on HP's tablet and smartphone team. Responsibilities include the design, testing, and debugging of NFC antennae and systems, but also expand to "support of product in field," indicating that HP is working on an aggressive roadmap here.

HP TouchPad now available for pre-order
Like UnlikeFiled in: NotebooksHPTouchPad
Right on schedule, Hewlett-Packard’s first webOS-powered tablet is now available for pre-order. The HP TouchPad becomes available on July 1st but those who want to ensure they get their supersized webOS fix as soon as possible can pre-order the device through a number of different retailers. Best Buy and Amazon, among others, have the TouchPad available for pre-order at $499 for the 16GB model and $599 for the 32GB model, as expected. BGR took a hands-on look at the TouchPad when it was first unveiled back in February, and we were impressed. WebOS translates very well to a large form device, and the interoperability with HP’s upcoming Pre 3 smartphone is fantastic, though we still have no wo...

HP TouchPad rumored to lack document editing at launch
Like UnlikeFiled in: NotebooksHPTouchPad
The WebOS nuts at PreCentral have received an anonymous tip-off that HP's imminent slate won't be able to edit Office docs out of the box. As much as we'd like to dismiss this as a retaliatory rumor put out by BlackBerry, it emits an unfortunate whiff of truth. While HP has previously made a big deal of the TouchPad's inclusion of the Quickoffice app, it has only said it's "working with Quickoffice" to include document editing, and it has never demoed editing in action. The company has recently been trying to boost its app count, but perhaps it should have put more effort into securing core functionality instead. A glimmer of hope, though: the same tip-off also suggested that at least some e...
