AMD releases Catalyst 11.10 final, squashes various bugs
Like UnlikeFiled in: Graphic CardsAMD
AMD has finalized its Catalyst 11.10 drivers, which have been available in some form of hotfix or preview download since late September. Although today's release notes don't seem to mention any raw performance boosts, previous iterations brought various improvements to Battlefield 3 and Rage, so you should stand to gain those increases if you're upgrading from Catalyst 11.9 or earlier. Besides the ambiguous speed boosts, Catalyst 11.10 totes a handful of new features and a slew of bug fixes.
Eyefinity now supports 5x1 display (portrait and landscape) configurations when using Radeon HD 5000 or 6000 series cards, the maximum resolution for HD 6000 series cards has been raised to 16,000 x 16,0...

AMD on Wednesday made available it's Catalyst 11.7 driver package for Radeon graphics card owners, and in doing so, the chip maker fixed a barrel full of issues, many of them related to Windows 7. AMD said the Catalyst 11.7 package addresses any and all quirks with mouse cursor lag, and if you've been experiencing system hangs on specific HDMI and DisplayPort displays using the previous driver package, 11.7 will fix that too.
Some of the other resolved issues in Windows 7 include:
Blu-ray playback using PowerDVD under High Performance no longer randomly hangs or displays a blank screen
Some DiVX format files no longer display video corruption using WinDVD
Random screen corruption is no longe...

AMD releases Catalyst 11.7 final, 11.8 preview drivers
Like UnlikeFiled in: Graphic CardsAMD
Sticking firm to its monthly release schedule, AMD has published the next complete build of its Catalyst driver suite along with a complimentary preview version. Catalyst 11.7 seems primarily focused on improving stability, carrying more than a dozen bug fixes for Windows 7 but offers few if any performance improvements. Conversely, the Catalyst 11.8 preview pledges speed gains in some of today's popular PC games.
The latest release resolves all known issues that cause mouse cursor lag, a problem that caused system hangs when using Catalyst 11.6 with certain HDMI and DP displays, glitches with PowerDVD 10 and WinDVD (which is now supported by AMD's SteadyVideo technology). SteadyVideo was ad...
