Apple uses technicality in an attempt to prevent Verizon from being a "friend of the court"
Like UnlikeFiled in: AppleVerizon Wireless
On Friday, Verizon filed an amicus brief with the Northern District of California court. This is better known as a "friend of the court" brief, which the carrier filed in an attempt to get the court to deny the preliminary ban against certain Samsung products that Apple is seeking in the case. Trying to land punches right where it hurts, Big Red said that banning sales of the Samsung Droid Charge and the Samsung GALAXY Tab 10.1 LTE tablet would "hinder" the carrier from rolling out its 4G LTE network, retard job growth and "undercut" a couple of public policy goals. Those goals include the spread of broadband and the development of a modern emergency response system.
On Tuesday, Apple referr...

Verizon Mango update also coming on the 27th September
Like UnlikeFiled in: Operating SystemsMicrosoftVerizon WirelessWindows Phone 7.5
We believe AT&T will roll out the Windows Phone 7.5 Mango update on the 27th, and now Verizon customer support appears to suggest the CDMA carrier will be launching the software update on the same day also.
Of course customer service reps are not always the most knowledgeable and accurate in the world, but the 27th seems as likely a day as any to bring all those HTC Trophies up to date.

Clearwire courting AT&T and Verizon in bid to raise cash for 4G LTE network
Like UnlikeFiled in: Verizon WirelessAT&T
Clearwire is in discussions to sell sell some of its wireless network capacity to Verizon Wireless and AT&T, Bloomberg reported recently. “All those discussions are under way,” Clearwire CEO Erik Prusch told Bloomberg. “I’m confident we’ll bring in new wholesale partners. Our message to the industry is that we’ve got the capacity to handle their needs.” However, it is more likely Clearwire is approaching the carriers in an effort to raise cash for its 4G LTE network plans. On August 3rd, Clearwire announced its intentions to build out a nationwide 4G LTE network but said those plans were “subject to additional funding.” Clearwire needs $600 billion to build its 4G LTE network.

Verizon goes to bat for Samsung in patent war with Apple
Like UnlikeFiled in: SamsungAppleVerizon Wireless
Well, it was really only a matter of time before third parties stuck their nose in the ongoing battle between Apple and Samsung. For most of this time others have stood on the sidelines, occasionally shouting moral support. But, no one has rolled up their sleeves and put up their dukes for either party -- that is, until now. Verizon has requested permission to file a brief with the United States District Court for the Northern District of California, asking it to deny Apple's request for a nation-wide injunction against the Infuse 4G, Galaxy S 4G, Droid Charge and Galaxy Tab 10.1.

Verizon expects Windows Phone to overtake BlackBerry
Like UnlikeFiled in: Operating SystemsMicrosoftRIM BlackBerryVerizon WirelessWindows Phone 7
Despite the poor sales of Microsoft’s Windows Phone devices, Verizon seems to have more confidence in the platform than RIM’s BlackBerry. During the Goldman Sachs Communacopia conference, Verizon CEO Lowell McAdam expressed his opinion on which platform would emerge as the third major mobile operating system and he believed that Windows Phone would overtake BlackBerry.
McAdam echoed the sentiment of other carriers, which feel that the mobile space will ultimately boil down to three major platforms. At the beginning of this year, the top mobile ecosystems were Apple’s iOS, Google’s Android, Nokia’s Symbian, RIM’s BlackBerry, and HP’s WebOS. At present, Nokia has abandoned Symbian for Windows ...

Verizon backs AT&T in T-Mobile merger
Like UnlikeFiled in: Verizon WirelessT-MobileAT&T
Verizon CEO Lowell McAdam has spoken out in favor of the AT&T/T-Mobile merger, describing the deal as “kind of like gravity” and arguing that, if it blocks it, the US government will need to be more active in its spectrum plans. Speaking at an investor conference this week, McAdam claimed “that match had to occur” MarketWatch reports, and warned that the involved parties “need to be very thoughtful on what the impacts would be to the overall industry if this is a way to regulate the industry without actually passing regulation.”
“I have taken the position that the AT&T merger with T-Mobile was kind of like gravity. It had to occur, because you had a company with a T-Mobile that had the spect...

Verizon adding 21 new LTE markets on October 20
Like UnlikeFiled in: Cell PhonesVerizon Wireless
Verizon’s 4G LTE network continues to expand at breakneck speeds with the carrier announcing today that it will be lighting up at least another 21 new LTE markets on October 20. The carrier had just launched 26 new markets on September 15. At this rate, it should be a breeze to reach its goal of 175 markets by year-end.
It’s reported that there will be at least 21 markets in this next roll-out, but once again Verizon is slowly trickling out the news releases for each area, so we’ll have to update the list as we get more information. Well, well. Looks like those leaked press shots (and hands-on photos and video walk-through) were on the money. HTC just officially announced the Rhyme -- that womanly handset otherwise known as the Bliss. As it happens, HTC isn't explicitly marketing this as a lady phone, though it bears all the markers of a device pandering toward those of us with XX chromosomes. Which is to say, it's petite and purple with middling specs. What you're looking at is a handset with a 3.7-inch WVGA display, a single-core 1GHz Qualcomm CPU, 768MB of RAM, 4GB of internal storage space, a non-removable battery, microSD expansion slot, WiFi, Bluetooth and GPS radios and dual 5MP / VGA cameras.
