Nikon D4 available from January 2012?

Reports are suggesting that a new Nikon DSLR, the D4, is likely to start shipping at the end of January 2012.
According to a post on NikonRumors, information suggests that the new camera will be ready for order and pick up at the end of January, meaning it would be available before Canon's EOS 1DX which was announced earlier in the year, but is only expected to be available in February next year.

Nikon has taken the unusual step of updating the firmware of its discontinued CoolPix P7000 enthusiast compact. Firmware v1.2 offers a broad selection of improvements and bug fixes, ranging from improved AF targeting to the correction of an error that meant the color temperature scale was reversed when correcting White Balance during in-camera Raw processing. The updated firmware can be downloaded from Nikon's websites.

Nikon's released firmware updates for three Nikon 1 lenses, fixing an issue that caused image data to record the camera's aperture setting incorrectly, and an issue that caused blurred images immediately after the camera was shaken. Nikon D800 pictures and specs leaked?

If those crazy kids at Nikon Rumors are to be believed, we're finally getting a good look at the long-awaited Nikon D800. Said to be "smaller and lighter than [the] D700," the report states that the 7,360 x 4,912 (36-megapixel) DSLR will feature 1080p (30/25/24) and 720p (60/30/25/24) video recording, a slightly larger display, video quality "better than D3s," autofocus identical to the D3 and D700, and slots for CompactFlash and SD memory cards. Nikon has released firmware updates for the Nikon D5100 and Nikon D7000 digital SLR cameras. Both updates address a number of issues and fix various bugs. Nikon factories to remain closed until 2012 due to Thailand floods

Nikon has issued a third official note on the damage to its facilities from the ongoing flooding in Thailand, and it looks like it will be closed into next year. The company's Ayutthaya plant will begin production again in January and get fully back up to speed by March, but with its doors shuttered since October 6th, the damage has already been substantial. This factory is used for both Nikon DLSRs and its new interchangeable lens V1 and J1 cameras —and three to six months of limited production will make Nikon's newest gear very difficult to get hold of for the immediate future. Rumoured Nikon D800 specs emerge

New rumours about the impending Nikon D800 have emerged, suggesting a 36 megapixel sensor, 4 fps continuous shooting and Full HD video in 30p.
Many people had expected a Nikon D800 to emerge as early as February or March this year, but it is thought that the earthquake and tsunami in Japan pushed back the release date to autumn. A report published in May suggested that Nikon's Sendai plant had fallen behind a previous summer deadline for the D700 replacement.
Further fuel was poured on the rumours fire as a French D800 user manual 'Obtenez le maximum du Nikon D800' (or 'Get the most out of your Nikon D800') by Bernard Rome appeared on the Amazon France website.

Nikon shares rise amid mirrorless speculation

Shares in Nikon have risen for the third day in a row after increased speculation about an impending launch of the company's first mirrorless camera.
A report in the Nikkei newspaper which claimed that the new Nikon compact system camera will be launched by the end of the year with a price of 70,000-100,000 yen (approximately £565-£800) with a kit lens seems to have been the major reason for the share price increase.
Nikon, along with its main rival, Canon, has yet to enter the mirrorless market, while Sony, Samsung, Panasonic, Olympus and Pentax all have models on the market.
