The Kindle Fire — it's just a BlackBerry PlayBook with a big Kindle logo imprinted on its back, right? To help you answer that burning question, iFixit has taken Amazon's brand new Android tablet into the lab and subjected it to the usual teardown treatment. The first major difference between the Fire and the PlayBook is in the port selection: Amazon offers just a 3.5mm headphone jack and a MicroUSB port that doubles up as both a data connector and power intake. There's also a power button sitting next to them and that's all the intrigue you'll find on the outside. No volume controls like on the PlayBook or any other portable device.

Amazon's new Kindle Fire tablet hasn't quite yet hit the hands of would-be buyers, but that hasn't stopped developers from saying that it is the most desired of all Android tablets to create apps for. Appcelerator and IDC polled almost 2,200 developers this month, and the Kindle Fire edged out the Samsung Galaxy Tab as the most attractive Android tablet to target their efforts at.

Samsung Galaxy Nexus shipping delayed by Amazon UK

We are still waiting for proper information about the release dates, locations and carriers for the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, and in some bad news it seems that Amazon UK has delayed the shipping date of the phone to December 2nd.
This obviously doesn't indicate a wider delay with the Galaxy Nexus, but it certainly isn't good news. The pre-order page for the Galaxy Nexus on Amazon UK has recently changed the shipping date of the phone to December 2nd. O2 still has the release of the Galaxy Nexus listed as "Soon: November", so this may just be an issue with Amazon UK.

Amazon has once again lowered the price of Verizon’s Motorola Droid Bionic, now selling it for $119. Of course, a new two-year contract is required but that’s like given these days. And that’s still much lower than $249, which is the phone’s price at Verizon’s website.
Now, we all know Verizon will soon start selling the Droid RAZR that we also know as the “world’s thinnest smartphone” as well as the Nexus Galaxy, both of which are better in some ways than the Droid Bionic. Yep, we had a feeling this one was coming. As expected, bookstore mega-chain Barnes & Noble has launched its answer to Amazon's Kindle Fire (and to a lesser extent, Kobo's multimedia Vox slate) -- also as expected, the thing looks an awful lot like its predecessor, the recently discounted Nook Color, right down to the metal bar on the bottom corner. Granted, B&N did already make the leap into the tablet space, when the Nook Color was upgraded earlier this year -- but the Nook Tablet brings more than just a new name, of course.

When the Amazon Kindle Fire was announced a couple of weeks ago carrying a price tag of only $200, for the first time we thought that the iPad really has gotten some competition.
The Kindle Fire is smaller at 7 inches, but offers a dual-core processor and a heavily modified Android that make it desirable.
Now, you might expect Apple to be challenged, but CFO Peter Oppenheimer actually said the Fire was good for the iPad. How come? Here's what Barclays published based on an interview with Oppenheimer:

Samsung’s brand new Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus tablet is now available from Amazon for $400. The tablet was originally expected to make its U.S. debut on November 13th. This successor to the original 7-inch Galaxy Tab is equipped with a 7-inch display with a better 1024 x 600-pixel resolution, 16GB of storage and a dual-core 1.2GHz Samsung Exynos processor. Samsung also said it will ship with built-in infrared capabilities that will allow consumers to control a home theater or TV set directly from the tablet. It will soon be offered by Best Buy, Tiger Direct and Fry’s as well.

According to Verizon's latest MAP listings, we expect to see the Samsung GALAXY Nexus launch in the States on November 10th. But if the listing for the phone spotted on Amazon's UK site is correct, we might see it released a few days earlier overseas and maybe-just maybe-in the U.S. as well. The listing comes from someone with the name "KingofGadgets" which might put a bit of a damper on this whole thing.

Amazon profit falls 73% in Q3 despite record Kindle launch

Amazon reported third-quarter earnings on Tuesday, noting net sales increased 44% from the same quarter last year to $10.88 billion. That figure is on a par with Wall Street’s revenue expectations of $10.93 billion. Amazon reported EPS of $0.14, which missed the Street’s estimates of $0.24 per share. Net income fell 73% quarter-over-quarter, however. Amazon reported net income of $63 million during the third quarter, down from $231 million in the second quarter. Not only has Amazon taken a note from Apple in building up content stores for music, video and books, but also in bringing those stores together in the ultimate content consumption device: a tablet. Amazon pursues authors, cuts out the publisher middleman

If you needed any more evidence that Amazon is building its own digital media empire, here it is. The New York Times reports that the online retail giant will publish over 120 books this quarter alone, both on its Kindle e-book platform and traditional physical copies. That puts it in the odd position of competing with some of its biggest suppliers, the traditional publishing houses that have been around for decades.
