According to This Is My Next, a new and improved version of the Motorola Defy could be making its way to AT&T. The new and improved part, according to the story, would constitute a bump up from a TI OMAP 3610 processor clocked at 800MHz to a TI OMAP 3620 with the slightly faster speed of 1GHz. The other change deals with the version of the Android OS on board. The current model offers Android 2.2 while a new Motorola Defy would come with Gingerbread (Android 2.3.3) installed.
The remaining specs are said to be the same as on the original model which would mean that you could expect the new Defy to offer a 3.7 inch screen with a resolution of 480 x 854, 512MB of RAM and a rear facing 5MP came...

Verizon and AT&T LTE likely to be incompatible

Verizon and AT&T LTE likely to be incompatible

Posted on Jul 15, 2011 by MG1

Bad news for anyone hoping that the expansion of LTE in America would mean we would finally have more freedom to switch carriers. A new report is saying that it is likely that devices for the Verizon LTE network will be incompatible with the AT&T LTE network because the frequency bands for each network will be different.
Most GSM networks run on the same frequencies, meaning you can simply swap your SIM card in an unlocked device while traveling and be able to have service wherever you go. There are some differences, like the frequency difference between T-Mobile and AT&T, which means devices for either network will be able to use the other's EDGE network, but not the faster 3G network. Sim...

AT&T updates international data roaming plans with higher caps

AT&T updates international data roaming plans with higher caps

Posted on Jul 13, 2011 by MG1

Filed in: AT&T

AT&T has changed up its international data roaming plans for people who need internet access on their phones when out of the country. The carrier has increased the data allotment for the plans, while keeping the price the same. It's still exorbitantly expensive though.
The $24.99 per month package has been bumped up from 20MB to 50MB, the $59.99 per month/50MB plan has been scrapped for a $49.99 per month/125MB plan, the 100MB for $119.99 per month has been scrapped for a 275MB/$99.99 per month option, and finally, the old 200MB for $199.99 plan has be quadrupled in capacity to 800MB for the same price. It is nice to see an American carrier acknowledge that travelers need more data, but the ...

HP TouchPad 4G for AT&T Announced

HP TouchPad 4G for AT&T Announced

Posted on Jul 13, 2011 by MG1

The HP TouchPad 4G has just been announced for AT&T, and this version will be sporting a 1.5GHz processor, which is a pretty nice bump up from the 1.2GHz processor that the Wi-Fi-only model uses. It has 32GB of internal memory and GPS and Wi-Fi capabilities, too, so it’s a pretty solid piece of hardware overall. And while it’s called the TouchPad 4G, it’s probably in reference to AT&T’s HSPA+ network and not its soon-to-be-launched LTE solution.
If you recently purchased the HP TouchPad with webOS, you might be feeling a little burned by the fact that HP announced a slightly more powerful model just weeks later. We have no clue why HP did that, but it’s coming nonetheless and it will be able...

AT&T and Sprint Subpoenaed by 9 States Over T-Mobile

AT&T and Sprint Subpoenaed by 9 States Over T-Mobile

Posted on Jul 13, 2011 by MG1

Filed in: T-MobileAT&T

A group of nine states, including Arizona, Florida, Hawaii, Illinois, Minnesota, New York, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Washington, have sent subpoenas to both AT&T and Sprint regarding AT&T's proposed acquisition of T-Mobile. The states have requested that Sprint send them all the same materials that Sprint has so far submitted to the Federal Communications Commission this year regarding the acquisition. Sprint has opposed the acquisition from day one and has delivered reams of material to the FCC in hopes of dissuading the FCC from approving the deal. The same states sent subpoenas to AT&T as well, though the nature of those subpoenas was not made clear by AT&T. Individual U.S. states do not h...

The Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray shows off its AT&T 3G bands at the FCC

The Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray shows off its AT&T 3G bands at the FCC

Posted on Jul 12, 2011 by MG1

The recently announced Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray just made a trip to the FCC packing support for AT&T’s 3G bands that could possibly mean the arrival of this device in the US.
The Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray is mid-range device with Android 2.3 Gingerbread on board. It doesn’t fit in with the monster sized devices that are owning the market today, but the 3.3-inch Reality Display and thin design will surely find some takers somewhere.
Running the show behind the scenes is a 1GHz processor and Sony‘s Bravia Mobile engine. Around the back of the device is an 8 megapixel camera with 720p video recording capabilities.
Now it should be noted that even though this device does have support for AT&T’s ...

3D enabled LG Thrill 4G "Coming Soon" to AT&T says carrier's website

Posted on Jul 11, 2011 by MG1

A big thrill is coming to AT&T customers. The U.S. version of the 3D enabled LG Optimus 3D, known as the LG Thrill 4G, is "Coming Soon" to AT&T according to the carrier's own web site. As we recently reported, the handset was pushed up to a summer release following Sprint's recent launch of the HTC EVO 3D, which also offers glasses-free 3D viewing.
The 4.3 inch screen (480 x 800 resolution) will show 3D content as well as take 3D pictures and video with a 5MP dual-lens camera on back. Video is captured at 1080p at 30 fps in 2D and 720p at 24fps in 3D. A TI OMAP4 dual-core processor clocked at 1GHz will be under the hood and could eventually allow the phone to offer Netflix HD, as we told you...

Second hacker indicted in AT&T iPad hacking

Second hacker indicted in AT&T iPad hacking

Posted on Jul 07, 2011 by MG1

The second of two hackers arrested over stealing iPad data this year has been formally charged in a Newark court. Andrew Auernheimer was accused of identity theft and conspiracy to get unauthorized access to a computer. Along with Daniel Spitler, who recently pleaded guilty, Auenhimer is alleged to have obtained the personal e-mail addresses and other info for about 120,000 iPad 3G users on AT&T in June of last year.
The indictment for Auernheimer has e-mail evidence of himself and Spitler aiming to get shock value out of the attack, which the two launched under the group name Goatse Security. Spitler told Auernheimer that he hoped to get at least one reporter's e-mail address to guarantee m...

HTC Status and LG Thrill 4G To Hit AT&T This Month?

HTC Status and LG Thrill 4G To Hit AT&T This Month?

Posted on Jul 06, 2011 by MG1

Sometime in the last year or so, the carriers picked up a bad new habit. They’d announce that they were getting a phone, talk all about the specs… but then give no indication of when it might actually be available. Maybe it’s because they don’t like making promises they’re not sure they can keep; maybe it’s because they’re hoping that a second announcement — the one containing the pricing/availability details — will stir up a second whirlwind of press. Whatever the motivation, it’s terribly annoying.
Take the Status and the glasses-free 3D LG Thrill for example. The Status just went official last week. The Thrill 4G, however, went official way back in March — and yet, there’s still no offici...

AT&T offering standard insurance for all iPhone models from July 17th

AT&T offering standard insurance for all iPhone models from July 17th

Posted on Jul 05, 2011 by MG1

The iPhone has been an AT&T exclusive since day one, but unlike other phones on the carrier, the original iPhone couldn't be insured. Things have changed with later models, but you still weren't eligible for standard insurance and had to pay a whopping $12 a month and $199 in deductibles if you used the iPhone.
This however is set to change once and for all as AT&T has updated its standard insurance policy now including all iPhone models. The monthly mobile insurance price runs at the much lighter on the pocket $4.99, which covers pretty much everything: loss, theft, accidental physical or liquid damage and mechanical or electrical failure. The deductible should be set at $125, if we are to ...

AT&T to enable BlackBerry Bridge support before sundown

AT&T to enable BlackBerry Bridge support before sundown

Posted on Jul 04, 2011 by MG1

Filed in: AT&T

Most tablets function just fine on their own, but RIM's BlackBerry Playbook introduced a unique, yet restrictive interface that limits Bluetooth tethering to a similarly-branded handset. This feature, called BlackBerry Bridge, lets your tablet piggyback on a handset's 3G data connection, also enabling access to productivity apps like email and calendar, which are still otherwise unavailable on the PlayBook. Unfortunately, this option hasn't been made available for AT&T users, but that's about to change, as the feature will be added to App World today. While the Bridge suite is totally gratis, enabling the AT&T 3G data connection requires a monthly tethering plan of $45, which means anyone gr...

AT&T teams up with Zynga on customized social gaming experience for its subscribers

AT&T teams up with Zynga on customized social gaming experience for its subscribers

Posted on Jul 04, 2011 by MG1

The social gaming juggernaut Zynga, which is behind the most popular game ever Farmville, is partnering with AT&T to bring the latest titles to its wireless subscribers.
There will be a dedicated space for Zynga's games in AT&T's section of Android Market, where tailored content will be made available, as well as free game credits, for example. The social gaming developer's titles will be promoted at AT&T-sponsored events, and overall, it seems as quite the deep collaboration.
It goes as far as Zynga and AT&T aiming to optimize the games for better battery life, and the carrier tweaking its network settings to ensure more fluid multiplayer experience. The financial terms of the partnership ...
