TouchPad Tablet Returns to Best Buy (and HP Officially Out of Stock)
Like UnlikeFiled in: TabletsHPTouchPad
Hewlett Packard over the weekend began sending emails to customers who signed up for updates on the TouchPad tablet to let them know the company is officially out of stock. Whatever remaining units HP had were sent off to retailers, but as far as HP's online inventory, it's been "depleted," HP said. For those of you still interested in snagging one of these fire sale tablets, Best Buy is one of the few places you'll be able to pick one up without an aftermarket price hike, albeit with a one very big caveat.
You have to purchase a new HP or Compaq laptop, desktop, or all-in-one computer. Starting on November 1 (tomorrow) at BestBuy.com and November 4 in Best Buy stores, a 32GB TouchPad tablet...

Motorola has shipped 100,000 Xoom tablets in Q3
Like UnlikeFiled in: TabletsMotorolaXOOM
Motorola shipped only 100,000 Xoom tablets in the third quarter of the year. The sad number comes from Motorola Mobility’s third quarter results and is revealing about the fate of Android tablets. It should also be noted that the company hasn’t sold 100,000 in the last trimester, the number is for shipments only.
And when compared with Apple’s iPad? The number is almost discouraging - the iPad recorded sales of 11 million in the third quarter of the year.
On the positive note, though, we recently heard that the 10.1-inch Honeycomb tablet by Motorola is expected to get updated to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, but there’s no set timeline. The tablet started receiving LTE under an upgrade pro...

Word has it that HP is finally sold out of the HP TouchPad altogether, so that begs the question – where does one go to try and snag these fire sale units? Well, if you’re still serious about trying to obtain one at their hard to beat price, you don’t need to look further than your good old local Best Buy store.

Starting on November 1st, customers will have the opportunity of buying the 32GB HP TouchPad for $149.99, but before you're able to snatch it at that price, you’ll be required to buy an HP or Compaq computer first. HP Windows 8 tablets arriving next year, CEO says; webOS future up in the air
Like UnlikeFiled in: Operating SystemsTabletsMicrosoftHPWindows 8
During the company’s third-quarter earnings call on Thursday, HP CEO Meg Whitman confirmed that her company will launch tablets powered by Microsoft’s Windows 8 operating system next year. “One of my observations is that HP tries to do a lot of things,” Whitman explained. “And I am a big believer in doing a small number of things really, really well — set them up, knock them down, set them up, knock them down.” Whitman’s comments are in-line with recent rumors that suggested that Dell and HP would both launch Windows 8 tablets during the third quarter next year. As for webOS, the mobile operating system HP’s former CEO Léo Apotheker basically killed off: “I think from a webOS perspective tha...

Motorola shipped only 100,000 XOOM tablets in Q3
Like UnlikeFiled in: TabletsMotorolaXOOM
Motorola Mobility reported its Q3 earnings report today and revealed a gloomy future for its Motorola XOOM tablet. The company had shipped only 100,000 units of the tablet in this last quarter, which is far less than the 440,000 units shipped in the quarter before as well as the 250,000 units shipped in the quarter of the tablet’s launch. It must also be noted that this is the number shipped and not necessarily the number actually sold.
In contrast, Apple’s iPad shipped 11.1 million units during the same period, far ahead of all Android tablet competitors. Despite this, Motorola is expected to announce a successor to the XOOM sometime soon and has recently begun 4G LTE upgrades for the curre...

Nokia Kinetic Tablet Prototype can be flexed for Input
Like UnlikeFiled in: TabletsNOKIA
Yesterday Nokia unveiled the new Nokia Lumia Windows Phones at the Nokia World 2011. There is though more going on at this Nokia show. CNET captured the Nokia Kinetic Device prototype on camera. Nokia Kinetic is a tablet prototype that features a flexible screen. You can hold it with two hands and it would scroll through music collections or photo albums when twisted. Bending the Nokia Kinetic inward or outward zooms photos in and out or paused and played music.
As you can see the flexible tablet is a working device, but far from a real product that you can buy. It is definitely an interesting idea and a great demo product. If it really makes our lives easier with tablets in the future is th...

Samsung appeals Australian Galaxy Tab 10.1 injunction in Apple case
Like UnlikeFiled in: TabletsSamsungAppleGALAXY Tab 10.1
Samsung has appealed a ruling by an Australian court that prevents it from selling the Galaxy Tab 10.1 in the country in an effort to get the tablet on store shelves in time for the holidays. Samsung attorney Neil Young accused Justice Annabelle Bennett of making “irrelevant considerations” and “making errors of law in her approach” to the injunction. The request for an appeal hearing will be granted by Justice Lindsay Foster, likely for the week of November 21st, The Wall Street Journal reported on Thursday. Samsung and Apple are currently locked in a number of legal battles around the globe. Apple has successfully blocked Samsung’s local retailers in Australia and The Netherlands from sell...

Motorola XOOM 2 appears in Verizon system with LTE
Like UnlikeFiled in: TabletsMotorolaVerizon WirelessXOOM 2
It appears as though Motorola doesn’t want to make the same mistake twice as a screenshot of the Verizon inventory system shows the unannounced XOOM 2 tablet with 4G LTE connectivity built-in and internal memory capacities up to 64GB.
The original Motorola XOOM only had access to Verizon’s 3G network and was sold with the promise that users could send it in to Motorola in the future to upgrade the device. This hardware upgrade was to make it compatible with LTE. However it took much longer than many owners would’ve liked. When the LTE upgrade was finally made available, the XOOM was already heading towards obsolete status.
Shipping the original XOOM without LTE out of the box was a mistake...

Nokia CEO Sees “Broader Opportunity” With Windows 8, Hints At Tablets

In a brief interview with This Is My Next, Nokia CEO (and mole for Microsoft, clearly) Stephen Elop hinted strongly at the potential for a Nokia-built Windows 8 tablet. While his statement was, strictly speaking, more of a dodge, it’s clear that this is something they’re at least thinking about.
When asked about its role as a consumer electronics brand, Elop explained:

HP Testing Windows 8 on TouchPads
Like UnlikeFiled in: Operating SystemsTabletsMicrosoftHPTouchPadWindows 8
Clayton Morris from FOX News reports that HP is currently doing "proof of concept work" testing the Preview Edition of Windows 8 on TouchPad tablets without webOS installed.
According to unnamed sources within HP, the company is having internal discussions about reviving the defunct webOS-based version after the supposed second fire sale wave takes place on an unspecified date. The company is also considering building an entirely new device instead with Windows 8 in mind.
The TouchPad was a brief glimmer on the market before HP pulled the device not two months after its debut. Yet despite the talk about selling off its PC division and putting webOS on hold, HP firmly stated that it had no pl...

RIM confirms PlayBook OS 2.0 delayed until February, still no BBM in sight
Like UnlikeFiled in: TabletsRIM BlackBerryPlayBook
Well, we hope you weren't expecting to have PlayBook 2.0 up and running on your BlackBerry tablet any time soon, cause it's been officially delayed till at least February. Word has come straight from the mouth (well, keyboard) of David Smith, senior vice president for the PlayBook project. In a blog post Smith announced that RIM would be holding back on the release to ensure many of the new features, including native email and enterprise app deployment, work as advertised. The OS update will be getting a decently long beta test, with it rolling out to some in the Early Adopter Program "shortly." Sadly, it seems that some features have fallen by the wayside with the focus on polish -- namely,...
