If you are anxiously awaiting the arrival of the quad-core packing Asus Transformer Prime then check out the set of photos that have leaked that show off the tablet and the keyboard dock in all their glory.
The Asus Transformer Prime is going to be the first device to feature the Tegra 3 quad-core processor. It is believed that it will also feature the Android Ice Cream Sandwich platform but unfortunately the only screenshot we get of the software shows the lockscreen and nothing else.

Intel doesn't expect ultrabooks to hit $699 anytime soon

Intel's Asia-Pacific GM Navin Shenoy in an interview Tuesday said that ultrabooks weren't likely to get down to typical Windows PC levels in the near future. While Intel was helping to find ways to lower the price, Shenoy told Reuters that "more work needs to happen" from partners to dip much below the $999 price set by the originator of the category, the MacBook Air. The magic $699 price thought to bring mainstream adoption would come, but it wouldn't be in the first wave.
"At some point you'll have to be at that price point, but it doesn't have to be overnight," he explained. "It takes time to engineer a cost down."

It may not quite be an Ultrabook, but the Dell XPS 14z is definitely a svelte bit of kit and it's UK bound next month.
This 14-inch laptop will come with Intel’s 2nd generation Intel Core i5 or Core i7 processor, a 1366x768 resolution display and optional features including the choice of a 500GB, 640GB or 750GB hard drive along with an internal tray-load DVD combo for playing and recording DVDs/CDs.
Its big selling point is its skinnyness though: measuring 23mm and looking rather cool with an aluminium and magnesium alloy finish with a palmrest in dark grey.

If you meander on down to the Apple store this morning, you'll spot some nice little spec bumps to the MacBook Pro range -- without any increase to the prices. For a start, you can now splash out on a faster AMD Radeon HD 6770M discrete GPU with your 15-inch or 17-inch lappie. Even better, there are some CPU improvements to be had: the 13-incher gets the option of a 2.8GHz Core i7 or a 2.4GHz Core i5 dual-core processor, instead of the previous entry-level 2.3GHz i5 (and it also gets its HDD notched up to a minimum 500GB, or max 750GB). The 15-incher now goes up to a quad-core 2.4GHz i7 -- the same speedy processor that comes in the updated 17-inch variant.

Google Drops Chromebook Subscription-Only Policy

When Google launched its Chromebook initiative for business and education customers, potential clients weren’t given very much flexibility when it came to financing. Basically they either chose to agree to a three-year subscription fee, or they could look for something else. In a rather rare change of heart, Google has reversed the three-year requirement, and are now giving both sets of customers the option to buy the machines outright with one year of support instead. Clients will have the option to renew web-based admin, phone support, and hardware for years two and three, but it is no longer required.

Ultrabooks -- Intel's label for thin laptops with an edgy design à la the MacBook Air -- with Microsoft's upcoming Windows 8 OS are due to reach market next year, and the OS could help propel demand for the devices, an Intel executive said this week.
More than 60 Ultrabook designs could become available next year and "11 or so designs" will be available by the end of this year, said Tom Kilroy, senior vice president and general manager of worldwide sales at Intel, in an interview following the company's third-quarter earnings call on Tuesday.

Benchmarking unreleased hardware is a dodgy business, largely because you're not working with final drivers. Nevertheless, Netbook Live's latest efforts could possibly be seen as establishing a bare minimum of what Cedar Trail is capable of. They put a 12-inch Asus Lamborghini VX6S netbook containing the next-gen Intel D2700 Atom CPU and the AMD Radeon 6470M GPU up against its Pine Trail/ION2-powered VX6 predecessor. Dell's plans to enter, or possibly return, to the ultrabook category may be timed around the CES expo. Contacts said Saturday that the ultraportable notebook would arrive in January. Sony has recently introduced the new Sony VAIO SE and SA series. Both laptops feature a 2.40Ghz Intel Core i5-2430M processor with TurboBoost, a 1GB AMD Radeon Hybrid Graphics 6630M, a 4GB DDR3 RAM (upgradeable up to 8GB), the Intel Wireless Display (WiDi) technology, a DVD burner, a pair of USB 2.0 ports, USB 3.0, an HDMI out, a SD card slot, a VGA output, and a standard audio jack. Dell launched a new ultrathin laptop in China on Friday called the XPS 14z, which is slated to arrive in other markets later this year to take advantage of the coming holiday shopping seasons.
Dell is marketing the XPS 14z as the world's thinnest, fully featured laptop with a slot for a DVD drive. In terms of thinness, it measures 23 millimeters (0.9 inches) and is built with an aluminum case, making it resemble Apple's MacBook Pro line of laptops.
