Verizon Motorola XOOM owners have been experiencing Android 3.1 Honeycomb for some time now, but it appears that the latest version of the platform is being rolled out globally to other XOOM owners as well.
Motorola announced today through their European Facebook page that Android 3.1 Honeycomb is being pushed out to units outside of the US. From the sound of it all, European owners of the XOOM can expect to see it arrive sometime over the next several weeks. Remember when the HTC Sensation got announced back in April? The whole event was surrounded by mystery up to the very last moment. At the same time, people were trying hard to guess what new groundbreaking device or technology the manufacturer was about to reveal.
Well, it is the same thing happening all over again. According to some spicy rumors, HTC has another media event scheduled for June 27, and just like the case was with the Sensation's announcement, the party will supposedly take place in London. Besides that, it has been said that during the event, HTC will introduce the latest addition to its portfolio of high-tech devices.

HP seeks NFC engineer for 'smartphone and tablet products'

HP's mystery-wrapped Touch-to-share functionality already does something very similar to Near Field Communication, but it looks like the company's not satisfied with its own tech and will be jumping into the rapidly growing field of companies embracing NFC. A new job listing that has popped up online this week invites applications for the position of NFC Design Engineer on HP's tablet and smartphone team. Responsibilities include the design, testing, and debugging of NFC antennae and systems, but also expand to "support of product in field," indicating that HP is working on an aggressive roadmap here.

Owners of the Motorola XOOM tablet outside of the U.S. have something to be happy about today, as the company has announced that the roll-out of the Android 3.1 Honeycomb upgrade has begun. Among the many improvements and new features added with Android 3.1 is support for external microSD cards. The roll-out will take place over the next few weeks, and owners will receive a notification on their tablets when it is ready to be downloaded and installed. Sprint has just announced that it will be carrying the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 beginning June 24. The carrier will be stocking non-3G, Wi-Fi-only versions, much like the way it carries non-3G versions of the Motorola XOOM and BlackBerry PlayBook. The carrier says that the 16GB edition of the Galaxy Tab 10.1 will be available for $499.99. It is the same version of the Galaxy Tab 10.1 that hit retail shelves last weekend. The tablet will be available online, in-store, and through telesales.

BlackBerry Tablet OS for PlayBook updated to 1.0.6, still no email

Last night Research In Motion pushed out an update for the BlackBerry Tablet OS that powers the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet, bringing the version up to 1.0.6.2390. This update brought along Adobe Flash Player 10.3 and Adobe AIR 2.7, along with security and bug fixes for Adobe Flash Player. RIM is claiming that the PlayBook will support Flash better than ever, and that the Adobe AIR 2.7 support will open up the platform to new applications that are built for AIR 2.7. Unfortunately, that's it as far as new stuff goes. We're still waiting for that promised email client, RIM.

Samsung wouldn't get any more specific than "mid-summer" when it revealed that the Galaxy Tab 10.1 would be coming to Sprint, but it turns out you don't have to wait much longer to pick one via the carrier. Sprint has just announced that the WiFi-only tablet will be available through its website and other channels starting June 24th for the same $499.99 it demands elsewhere (though you'll have to wait until July 24th to get one at a Sprint retail store). It also not-so-subtly notes that the tablet is "even more amazing" when paired with an Overdrive Pro 4G mobile hotspot or Novatel MiFi -- sold separately, of course. Typically, the whole fun of spotting products in the wild is that they haven't been officially announced to the world yet, but in the case of the Acer Iconia Tab A100, we're just amazed it's finally here, and that it's so... unassuming. Just weeks after rearing its head in FCC drawings, the delayed Tab has quietly surfaced at Walmart with a price tag of $349. That sticker there says it all, but for the money you'll get Tegra 2 innards with 8GB of internal storage, a 2 megapixel front-facing camera, and a 5 megapixel one 'round the back. And of course, it runs Android 3.0 at a time when most other 7-inchers still tap out at Android 2.3 -- possibly the reason it was delayed in the first place....
