AMD releases Catalyst 11.11 drivers, adds Flash 11 support
Like UnlikeFiled in: Graphic CardsAMD
AMD has issued a new release of its Catalyst graphics card drivers, bringing the package up to version 11.11. Where last month's 11.10 release was all about Battlefield 3 and Rage performance tweaks, today's highlights include support for Flash Player 11 and its Stage 3D architecture for hardware accelerated graphics rendering, which Adobe says will enable a new class of console-quality games and immersive apps on browsers.
According to the release notes, the new Catalyst 11.11 drivers enable GPU accelerated Stage 3D API and Stage 3D applications across all Radeon HD GPUs as well as A- and E-series APUs. Besides this the new Catalyst release includes updated versions of AMD's display driver,...

Nvidia's GeForce 285.79 Beta Drivers Beef Up Skyrim, Battlefield 3 And More
Like UnlikeFiled in: Graphic CardsnVIDIA
Pardon us if we keep talking games, but we’re just as caught up in Skyrim fever as the rest of the world. While we’re talking Tamriel, is your PC primed and ready for fighting dragons in the Nordic mountains? Yesterday, Nvidia released a new Geforce 285.79 beta driver that included, amongst other things, improved SLI and 3D Vision support for – you guessed it – Skyrim (which now garners an “Excellent” 3D Vision rating by Nvidia, by the way).
Nvidia also recommends that Battlefield 3 players download the new drivers, thanks to a trio of improvements specific to that title. Check out the full list of improvements below, and if they pique your interest, head on over to Nvidia’s beta drivers pag...

The New EVGA Dual GTX 560 Ti That Thinks It's A GTX 585
Like UnlikeFiled in: Graphic CardsEVGAGeForce GTX 560 Ti 2Win
EVGA has just announced a new dual GPU card based on the GF114 GPU – check out the product launch page here and the product page here. If their performance graph on that launch page is accurate, then the card is around 30% faster than a GTX 580 when running the Unigene Heaven benchmark. The output panel contains three DVI connectors for NVIDIA 3D Surround, along with a mini HDMI port. The cooler has three fans, which should make for a well-cooled and reasonably quiet card. The marketing blurb says:

Q3 Graphics Shipments Up 16.7% Over Last Quarter
Like UnlikeFiled in: Graphic Cards
Jon Peddie Research (JPR) estimates that 138.5 million graphics chips were shipped, up 21.5 million from Q3 2010. The year-over-year growth of 16.7 percent was above the 10-year average of 13.9 percent.
The clear winner of the quarter was Intel with a market share of 60.4 percent, up from 54.8 percent in the last quarter. AMD was down from 34.4 percent to 23.0 percent and Nvidia retreated from 20.1 percent to 16.1 percent. Nvidia's drop was largely due to the company's decision to remove itself from the integrated graphics market. JPR noted that Nvidia's discrete graphics chip share was up 30 percent from Q2.

GPU shipments up 18.4% on-year, Intel has over 60% of the market
Like UnlikeFiled in: Graphic CardsIntel
Jon Peddie Research has released its third quarter report on the graphics market, announcing 16.7% sequential increase in shipments to 138.5 million. That's above the 10-year average of 13.9%, but still in line with seasonal expectations as vendors stock up for the holidays. Intel alone witnessed a 28.5% growth in shipments on-quarter and 36.5% on-year, which is almost entirely comprised of the embedded graphics chips inside its latest-generation desktop and mobile processors. The company has maintained its majority share of the graphics market with 60.4% slice -- up 10.1% from the previous quarter and 9.5% on-year.
Although it has experienced a 9.9% growth in shipments -- thanks to its legi...

AMD releases Catalyst 11.10 final, squashes various bugs
Like UnlikeFiled in: Graphic CardsAMD
AMD has finalized its Catalyst 11.10 drivers, which have been available in some form of hotfix or preview download since late September. Although today's release notes don't seem to mention any raw performance boosts, previous iterations brought various improvements to Battlefield 3 and Rage, so you should stand to gain those increases if you're upgrading from Catalyst 11.9 or earlier. Besides the ambiguous speed boosts, Catalyst 11.10 totes a handful of new features and a slew of bug fixes.
Eyefinity now supports 5x1 display (portrait and landscape) configurations when using Radeon HD 5000 or 6000 series cards, the maximum resolution for HD 6000 series cards has been raised to 16,000 x 16,0...

Nvidia Preps GF110-based GeForce GTX 560 Ti Upgrade
Like UnlikeFiled in: Graphic CardsnVIDIAGeForce GTX 560 Ti
This new Ti will, if VR-Zone is right, be based on the GF110 chip, which makes it a close relative to the 570 and 580 models. It will also mean a drop of the current GF114.
The publication reports that the new 560 Ti will essentially be a 570 with 14 (and one disabled) streaming multiprocessor with a total of 448 cores, up from the current 384. It is more than likely that the clock speed will be below that of the 570. Expect to see the 320-bit memory interface with 56 TMUs and 40 ROPs.
The likely performance gain is pure speculation at this time, but I will make an educated guess that the card will be consuming more power than the 170 W of the current 560 Ti and move closer to the 219 W of t...

Leadtek Research Inc., known globally for its extreme visual graphics technology, added the new WinFast GTX 560 Ti Hurricane graphics card to the Fermi II generation family for enthusiasts. It features dual 90 mm fans, two 8 mm cooper heat-pipes, a large copper base and many fan fins equipped behind the GeForce Fermi 114 chipset, which can reduce temperature more effectively than the standard version containing only two 6 mm cooper heat-pipes from the chipset manufacture. This not only means improvements in the thermal solution but also in noise emission. Only 21 dB is measured during idle time, and even during peak time, it is just 43 dB. Leadtek will release more dual fan design graphics c...

Nvidia's GeForce 285 Beta Drivers Hint at New Mobile GPUs
Like UnlikeFiled in: Graphic CardsnVIDIA
It looks like Nvidia is gearing up to launch a pair of 600 Series mobile graphics chips. We know this because somebody went and dissected Nvidia's recently released GeForce 283.38 drivers and found a couple of lines of code referencing the unreleased parts, which is a good indicator that they'll be showing up soon.
VR-Zone dug up the following lines of code from the new drivers:
NVIDIA_DEV.1058.01 = "NVIDIA GeForce 610M"
NVIDIA_DEV.0DE9.01 = "NVIDIA GeForce GT 630M"
Not much is known about these upcoming parts, though VR-Zone surmises it's entirely possible the GT 630M could be the shipping name for Nvidia's GK107, a part that features a 128-bit memory interface and supports DDR3 and GDDR5 m...
