Raidmax Unveils New Gundam-Themed Agusta Gaming Chasis
Like UnlikeFiled in: Desktop Computers
If you're a Gundam fan from back in the early '80s Mobile Suit days or more of a newcomer who jumped onto the SEED bandwagon, you'll get a kick out of the new Gundam-themed Agusta case Raidmax showed off yesterday. Not the cartoony type? That's okay -- the ATX and MicroATX-compatible case still looks pretty cool even if you have no concept of the lore behind the Augusta Newtype Lab.
The front of the Agusta sports five tool-less 5.25-inch drive bays with pop-off panels, all of which are covered by the case's "Gundam themed armor-shield," which opens outward like a door. Illuminated fans in front and on top (there are 7 fans total) add to the sci-fi appeal, while you'll find six additional 3.5...

Sapphire Unveils AMD E450-Powered Edge-HD3 Mini PC
Like UnlikeFiled in: Desktop ComputersSapphireEDGE-HD3
Not too long ago, Sapphire rolled out the diminutive Edge-HD Mini PC, which was hailed as the teeny-tiniest PC in all the land. (The company also oddly claimed the PC's "less than half a liter in volume!" You know, in case you wanted to fill it with Kool-Aid or something.) Despite its small size, the Atom-based Edge-HD packed a decent punch and racked up a lot of fans. Now, Sapphire's pulled the curtain off the Mini PC's follow-up. The aptly named Edge-HD3 ditches Intel for a 1.6GHz AMD E450 APU that gives the PC a performance boost over its predecessors.

HP Z1 Workstation AIO has a 27-inch flip-up screen, lets you easily open its chassis
Like UnlikeFiled in: Desktop ComputersHPZ1
It looks like HP isn't satisfied with its current workstation lineup: the company has added an all-in-one to the powerful, business-class series. It's called the Z1 Workstation, and other than desktop-grade silicon, the AIO makes a bit of a statement with its chassis. Sure, it is a bit chunky, but it makes up for that by being easy-to-access and customizable. The Z1's 27-inch IPS 2560 x 1440 display snaps open like a lid, leaving its 4 PCI express card slots (one full-sized 16x), three hard drive bays, and four memory slots laid bare for you to tinker with. The base configuration is expected to arrive in April for $1,899 with a 3.33GHz Core i3-2120 and integrated graphics. Of course, being a...

More smartphones were shipped than PCs in 2011
Like UnlikeFiled in: Desktop ComputersCell Phones
Canalys research firm issued a report today that makes us all think back to our very first time getting a blue screen of death on a PC. According to combined statistics from 2011, manufacturers shipped more smartphones than computers in 2011 – 488 million smartphones hit shelves last year, while only 414.6 million PCs did. Though tablets were supposed to reign in the “post-PC” era, the PC numbers do factor in tablet shipments.
“Smart phone shipments overtaking those of client PCs should be seen as a significant milestone,” VP and Principal Analyst of Canalys, Chris Jones, commented. “In the space of a few years, smart phones have grown from being a niche product segment at the high-end of th...

Arctic Cooling Announces New AMD Trinity APU-Powered HTPCs
Like UnlikeFiled in: Desktop ComputersArctic CoolingMC101
Arctic Cooling may have earned its reputation on the back of its cooling products -- hence its name -- but late last year, it introduced a line of home theater PCs based on Intel's Atom chip. It must have been pretty well-received, because Arctic recently announced it was launching a new line of HTPCs. Why is that notable? Because the Arctic MC101 line will be powered by AMD's next-gen Trinity APU, combination CPU/GPU chips that haven't even hit the streets yet.
