Vodafone and O2 to team up for UK 4G network

While Everything Everywhere patiently waits for approval on it's next-generation network, Vodafone and O2 has announced that it'll be forming an alliance to create a single shared grid in the UK. While the two UK carriers will still compete for customers, it'll pool the infrastructure needed to roll out 4G coverage. Both companies will run on separate spectrum and each will have access to around 18,500 masts, apparently boosting the number of sites by more than 40 percent for each operator. The duo will also cooperate on new masts in remote areas and intend to start later this year -- once Ofcom's had its say.

As per usual, Amazon Wireless is throwing up some great deals on smartphones and is offering the Samsung Galaxy Nexus for a mere penny. While the handset may be 6 months old at this point (Ancient in Android phone years), it’s still a great phone and grabbing it for a penny is a steal.
Of course, to get the Galaxy Nexus for a penny, you’re going to need to sign a two-year contract with Verizon. Also, this deal is only for new customers, and existing Verizon customers will still have to pay up $149 to get the handset. he Nokia Lumia 900 has arrived in Australia recently, and is currently being offered on Optus’s network there.
A reader has however contacted us to complain that Optus does not seem to be offering the handset to their business customers.
The device does appear on Optus’s Personal pages, but not at all on their business pages. Ado_CiVon writes that he contacted two customer reps and was told that the handset was at present only being offered to business buyers.

Official is as official does... right? In a bid to one-up the Galaxy S II's launch here in the States, Samsung has just announced that five carriers will soon have their own customized versions of the Galaxy S III. And by "soon," we mean "beginning in June." AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon Wireless and US Cellular are all in line to take part, with exact pricing and availability to be announced by each of the five carriers in the coming weeks. We are, however, told to expect on-contract prices as low as $199, and it sounds as if all five variants will keep the same 4.8-inch HD Super AMOLED display.

LG Optimus LTE Android 4.0 update now rolling out in Korea

The Ice Cream Sandwich update LG promised in June is here, at least for one of its phones. We've gotten confirmation that the Optimus LTE software upgrade, which adds Android 4.0 as well as the Optimus UI 3.0, is now live for phones in Korea. LG PR rep Ken Hong has posted a picture of his Optimus LTE running Android 4.0.4, and we're keeping our eye out for similar updates elsewhere. Besides the Optimus LTE, LG has previously said that the Vu and Optimus LTE Tag will be getting Ice Cream Sandwich in June.

Taller new iPhone screen allegedly shown in leaked video

Another piece of information about the new iPhone has leaked, apparently backing up rumors that it will be taller than the iPhone 4S. In a short video, Japanese site Macotakara shows off a 10.33-cm (4.07-inch) screen and a front panel that's quite a bit longer than the current-gen phone it's placed against. It's otherwise similar in shape, with the same width but a slightly lower Home button. The panel looks much like the one 9to5 Mac said it obtained earlier, including a FaceTime camera that's been moved above the earpiece. iPhone 5 hardware tipped to include Samsung processor

It appears today that Samsung is indeed inside the next iPhone if a leaked Beta version of iOS 6 is to be believed. This version of Apple’s mobile operating system is being run by the folks at 9to5mac who also note that they’ve got the software running on an iPhone today, it showing off Darwin Kernel Version 13.0.0 and signs of an ARM S5L8950X processor from Samsung. This basic confirmation that Samsung is in the next Apple mobile device takes rumors that Apple was moving away from Samsung parts in their devices and puts the processor portion, at least, to rest as a falsehood.

T-Mobile HTC One S software update delayed

So, about that update for the HTC One S on T-Mobile that was supposed to start rolling out today, it’s delayed. Sorry.
Originally the update was schedule for May 31st through June 30th. The support documentation has just been updated and now reads June 4th though July 7th. While a reason for the delay has not been cited, it looks like HTC One S owners will have to wait until Monday to get their update.

Apple, Samsung smartphones and tablets dissected by Technicolor

Technicolor, the iconic French company that invented the process that enables color movies, is looking for large patent payoffs from major mobile vendors, Bloomberg reported on Tuesday. The company holds more than 40,000 video, audio and optics patents, and reportedly employs a team of 220 people who dissect every new smartphone and tablet from vendors such as Apple, Samsung and HTC. We reported two days ago that Verizon had finally made the Android 4.0.4 update official on its website, and now, perhaps 5 months after many people were expecting and update, the OTA is getting pushed out to actual phones owned by real flesh and blood people. Of course owners of the GSM version are already rocking 4.0.4, even the Sprint version (which is actually identical save for different branding and the presence of Google Wallet) have enjoyed the update for a month.

A short time ago we informed you that the HTC DROID Incredible 4G LTE has been spotted on the Verizon TestMan site, which often means the device is close to being released. Samsung posts Galaxy S III source code, modders start their engines

That was fast: just a few days after the Galaxy S III reached buyers' eager hands, Samsung has posted the phone's source code. Its dutiful clinging to Google's Android guidelines opens the floodgates to custom ROMs as well as a better sense of what makes Samsung's Android 4.0 variant tick. As you'd anticipate, the code is only valid for the international GT-i9300 version. North American models, for the time being, are left out. Still, the source is useful for most anyone that wants to tinker with what should be the most ubiquitous Google-powered phone of the year, so get to downloading if that sounds like you.
