Philips MCi900 Pro Reviews

www.whathifi.com‘s review Edit

This is supposed to increase the dispersion of treble, making the sweet spot wider. The 5in woofer is angled to ensure good sound projection and time alignment with the tweeter.Sadly, whether you’re playing a CD or a FLAC file, the sound the Philips produces is fluffy, dynamically flat and lacking in detail. Play Caitlin Rose’s Shanghai Cigarettes, and although the delivery is airy and tonally even, it’s vague to the point of dullness, robbing the track of its punch, directness and, crucially, its sense of fun. One thing we haven’t mentioned is that the MCI900 will also play DVDs and video files, which it can upscale to 1080p and pump out via HDMI.

reghardware‘s review Edit

As a music system, the MCi900 ticks all the right boxes and if your video collection is DVD-based it makes a fine home theatre system too. Sound quality is excellent, as is the upscaled video output. My only concern is that for the price it doesn't support Blu-ray discs, lacks an iPod dock and won't play DivX video files (just discs), all features I'd like to see before I parted with a thousand notes.

Pocket-lint‘s review Edit

What the MCi900 does, it does well. The network compatibility works well, the audio quality is excellent, capable of belting out your tunes at high volumes without distorting, which isn’t always the case with lesser systems. What might be the sticking point though is that £999 asking price.

The Philips MCi900 looks fantastic and sounds it as well. It may not be as expansible as a Sonos set-up or a Squeezebox, or offer as comprehensive a range of music sources, but it does everything it can excellently. If its particular set of abilities lines up with your requirements, and you're looking for a stylish all-in-one solution, we've no reason not to recommend the MCi900.
