Can I take a hard drive image from one iMac and transfer it to another without having to re-install anything?

Level 6 Not sure, but probably there is an application somewhere that will help you do it. IMO as long as both machines run the sam OSX version, restoring an image should work.

Level 3 I believe Migration Assistant is what you're looking for. Navigate to /Applications/Utilities to find the app.
