T-Mobile G1 Pro Reviews

expertreviews‘s review Edit

The G1 has some great features, and the operating system could be a serious rival to Apple's excellent iPhone OS. However, we cannot fully recommend it until Google irons out Android's problems, most notably its power management and office document support.

TechRadar UK‘s review Edit

The new T-Mobile G1 Google phone is no Apple iPhone killer. There's still an awful lot of reasons to get excited about the G1. In fact, we'd say it is easily in the top-five of all mobile phones ever made and showcases why Google Android was worth the long wait.

Google Android is fantastic, but we're not convinced by the practical but chunky hardware.

The G1 has great potential and the future applications that could be developed for the phone make it an exciting device to watch and one which hopefully will improve greatly in the near future.

Is the HTC Dream the dream phone for consumers? We actually feel that this phone is more for the hardcore tech enthusiasts out there. The Android platform is ready for developers to go all out with mobile applications and to fully harness its usefulness, there's actually a lot of legwork to be done. Having an intimate knowledge of the mobile devices will definitely help in the long run should you wish to tinker with applications that actually requires direct access on a Google phone.

Softpedia‘s review Edit

Even if it's the first device to feature the new Android operating system, G1 seems solid enough to be a compatible option for those who are looking for an iPhone rival. After 2 hours of use, I realized that the G1 was only a shell that kept in the real “pearl,” more specifically Android. It's like you get a PC that has the Windows operating system installed, but if you really want to do something with it you must start installing the applications you need. This is also the case with G1.

CNET Reviews‘s review Edit

It's been a little more than a year since Google Android was announced and rumors of a little device called the HTC Dream started to leak onto the Web. We think it's fair to say that the Dream stirred up as much anticipation and hype as the Apple iPhone, not only because it would be the first smartphone to run Google's mobile platform but also because of the potential to overtake Apple's darling. (Hey, like it or not, the iPhone set a new bar for handset design and convergence, and serves as a sort of benchmark for touch-screen smartphones these days.)

PC World‘s review Edit

At first glance, the T-Mobile G1 ($179 with a two-year contract) doesn't seem to merit much attention. It looks like just another bland, HTC-manufactured phone. But use the G1--the first phone to run Google's Android operating system--for 5 minutes, and you'll start to see why it's one of the best-designed phones you can buy. Not only is the G1 intuitive to use, but its customization options (via Android) makes it a tweaker's delight.

Phone Arena‘s review Edit

T-Mobile USA and HTC have brought the first Dream to reality and released the G1. As the first device running Android it has had lots of expectations heaped on it, too many most likely. Android is not about a device, but rather a mobile computing environment and more importantly a philosophy. Still, as the launch device first impressions are critical and the G1 has a lot to live up to...

GSMArena‘s review Edit

The T-Mobile G1 is the Googlephone. Did we really need to say that? Well, there's more Google in this story than there is phone, so we guess we did. We've got a new contender on the race track but we're talking no rookie here. If you thought Apple made the phone game breathtaking, think of where it's all heading with Google keen to play along. Unlike the iPhone Mac OS X, the Android is the joint effort of the whole Open Handset Alliance, which brings together makers that sure know the drill. So much for the rookie, as long as Google is siding with Asus, HTC, LG, Garmin, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, Toshiba
