If you haven't picked up on it, we do think that both the LG V30 and Google Pixel 2 XL are pretty awesome. Now, there are some pros and cons to both phones — the V30 is a bit thinner, a bit easier on the hand, has a headphone jack and a custom UI with themes. The Pixel 2 XL has a disappointing display, but offers top-notch performance, the latest and greatest in software experience directly from Google, and stereo speakers at the cost of a slightly bulkier handset.

Of the two phones, the iPhone X is probably the more impressive: it has a more eye-catching design, has a small lead on performance, better speakers, and offers a camera experience that we imagine many users will prefer. But the Pixel 2 XL is no slouch by a long shot, and is still one of the very, very best Android phones you can buy. In the end, the choice between these two really might come down to platform: whether you're an iOS die-hard or an Android fan, these models represent some of the finest smartphone experiences you can find on either operating system.

Had Google used a superior OLED display, the phone would have been an instant recommendation for basically anyone after a new handset. But with concerns over the display and a high price tag, explore your options before diving into the world of Pixel.

In the end, both phones are very solid choices. We wish they had some welcome extras like microSD expansion or wireless charging, but these features aren't going to carry equal weight with every shopper, and we imagine that for a lot of smartphone users, both the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL will easily give them everything they need.
