While both the iPhone 8 Plus and the OnePlus 5 have their pros and cons, probably the biggest deciding factor for the regular user will be price of admission attached to either handset. Sure, you will have to pay a premium to get into the Apple club, but it could very well be worth it - you get a device that's been perfected and polished for over three years, runs the excellent iOS, and will allow you to benefit from excellent support down the road. That said, the OnePlus 5 is not a bad phone either: just like any other device, it has certain drawbacks, but for the price it flaunts, it's quite an appealing, albeit a bit unpolished offering. At the end of the day, you will get what you pay for.

Both phones have very distinct strengths: for the Galaxy S8+ that is the immersive bezel-less screen with eye-popping colors, the more modern design, Android with its better notifications, customizations and open nature, as well as support for little conveniences like the headphone jack. The iPhone 8 Plus has other strong points: it is the faster phone with a buttery smooth performance that the Galaxy cannot match, it has that dual camera with Portrait mode which is a gimmick, but a fun one, it is also the more versatile device for creatives, it is the go-to phone for gamers, and last but not least, it will certainly get updates faster and be supported for way longer than the Samsung Galaxy phone.

If you prefer your iPhone with this more traditional screen shape, or just can't stomach the idea of a $1000 smartphone, go ahead and dive right into the iPhone 8 Plus. But if you can wait just a little longer so you can get a chance to see what the iPhone X can really do, you'll be prepared to make one very informed decision about which vision for the future of Apple smartphones you want to support.

The iPhone 8 Plus is a superlative phone with a spectacular camera, but wait for the upcoming iPhone X before buying: it promises to fold all of the key features of the 8 Plus into a smaller, sexier package.
