Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS1 Pro Reviews

Steve's Digicams‘s review Edit

The Panasonic Lumix TS1 is a tough, go anywhere camera that is water and dust resistant as well as tough enough to drop from 5ft. Its set of features and image quality put it at the top of the list for a tough, compact camera, as does the price.

TechRadar UK‘s review Edit

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FT1's solid metal shell certainly looks the part of a tough camera. The FT1 worked fine after freezing, though the battery level indicator dropped considerably. It had no problems shooting underwater and survived a drop test onto a hard floor unscathed. The Panasonic's HD Movie mode is a bonus, but for ultimate toughness it has to play second fiddle to the Olympus.

PhotographyBLOG‘s review Edit

In the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FT1 we have a take anywhere, use (almost) anywhere pocket camera that combines sophistication with resilience; if we look back at the toughened likes of Fujifilm's Big Job and even Canon's recent pug-like PowerShot D10 we'll realise pulling that dual feat off isn't always an easy ask. The negatives are that the camera is pricey if it's nigh indestructible qualities aren't a key priority, and for desert dwellers we get dustproofing instead of freezeproofing which would have been far more useful at the time I write this.

PC Magazine‘s review Edit

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS1 is built for abuse, but in our tests this ruggedized shooter didn't quite live up to expectations.

Camera Labs‘s review Edit

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FT1 / TS1 is an excellent all-round compact that can also be used in the water to a depth of 3 metres. It has a 12.1 Megapixel sensor, a good all-purpose 28-128mm equivalent optical zoom with very effective image stabilisation. It also boasts excellent video capabilities, delivering 720p HD video in the choice of two formats with the ability to optical zoom during shooting, and output both movies and stills over its HDMI port.

The Imaging Resource‘s review Edit

Panasonic has produced a real winner with the Lumix TS1: a digital camera that you can take anywhere, rain or shine, underwater, and you can even mistreat it and it'll still turn in better photos than many other digital cameras on the market. Although there are other rugged digital cameras - some more rugged than the TS1 - none so far comes close to the high image quality of the Panasonic TS1.

Panasonic's new rugged compact is ready for you to kick sand at its lens and toss it in the ocean. Did it live through our rigorous tests?

A full-featured waterproof/shockproof pocket point-and-shoot, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS1 is a near-perfect rugged camera for everyday use.
