Macworld‘s review Edit

For many years, “pro” meant a big, expandable tower case, lots of internal storage, replaceable graphics cards, and so on. For Apple, it now means “maximum performance when using pro apps.” In that respect, the new Mac Pro reflects multiple trends in computing. It, of course, continues Apple’s ongoing shift across its product lines towards flash storage and external expandability at the expense of capacious hard drives and internal upgrades. But it also illustrates the ways in which Apple and other vendors are responding, at the high end, to the fact that processor speeds simply aren’t increasing at the same rate that they used to: Namely, they are focusing on multi-core and GPU-based processing technology, in both hardware and software.

SlashGear‘s review Edit

It's hard not to be wowed by the Mac Pro. Apple has created a workstation that breaks new ground in design, delivers power in excess of PCs several times its size, and doesn't leave your office sounding like a turbine hall in the process. That it carries a premium price comes as little surprise given its position in Apple's range; that it delivers so comprehensively is what leaves us recommending it to those with the need and the budget for superlative performance.

AnandTech‘s review Edit

All in all the new Mac Pro is a good update to its aging predecessor. Apple did a great job with the new chassis and build a desktop that's extremely dense with compute. When I had to dust off the old Mac Pros to prepare them for this comparison I quickly remembered many of the reasons that frustrated me about the platform. The old Mac Pro was big, bulky, a pain to work on and was substantially behind the consumer Macs in single threaded performance. The new Mac Pro fixes literally all of that. If you have a workload that justifies it and prefer OS X, the Mac Pro is thankfully no longer just your only solution, it's a great solution.

CNET Reviews‘s review Edit

The new Mac Pro is a professional workhorse dressed up in a very appealing high-design package. It's a stretch to say this is a computer for casual consumers, but the starting price isn't more than you'd pay for a similarly configured Windows PC and the radically different look and feel is cool enough to appeal to any design enthusiast who wants nothing but the best-looking, best-performing products. The depth of its abilities as a video editing and professional-grade creation tool are both too vast to fully explore in an initial day or two, and also somewhat outside our normal consumer-focused scope, therefore, this review will be updated with new impressions and performance results as we continue to test the system.
