Sony Alpha DSLR-A500 Pro Reviews

CNET Reviews‘s review Edit

Cheaper and with better photo quality than its sibling, the Sony Alpha DSLR-A500's quirky design is the only real flaw in an otherwise solid entry-level model with fast Live View shooting and a useful tilting LCD.

ephotozine‘s review Edit

Sony's Alpha A500 had exposure problems. It lost detail in backlit subjects, cooled images way too much in varied light and produced pale portraits. It's a shame, because the noise tests were very positive and the preset white balance works beautifully.

ephotozine‘s review Edit

It may not have some of the latest video features that many cameras at this level have included, but it makes up for that with a very useful Live View feature, articulating screen, image stabiliser and excellent performance at high sensitivities. Overall it is a solid performer that is more than capable of yielding excellent results.

Sony has created a very interesting dSLR model and the A500 is likely to appeal to a variety of photographers looking for a unique camera with the ability to perform well in a wide range of conditions, thanks to it's excellent performance for a camera at this price point, With features that a more experienced photographer or a first time dSLR owner can appreciate.

The Sony A500 marks a return to form for Sony in the mid-range DSLR market after the backwards step of the A330 / A380 models, which although cheaper and lighter suffer from an un-intuitive control layout and poor handgrip.

www.trustedreviews.com‘s review Edit

The Sony Alpha A500 is a well-designed mid-range camera ideal for anyone upgrading from an entry-level model. It is rather bulky compared to its main rivals, but it is solidly made and handles well. It has a good range of features, excellent performance and reliably good image quality. If the lack of a video mode is no handicap then it's certainly worth looking at.
