Razer Edge Pro Pro Reviews

tabletpcreview‘s review Edit

I know right off the bat that people are going to criticize the battery life, screen resolution, and weight of the device, but I have to give Razer credit for creating such a bold product. The game controller really makes a difference for tablet gaming and Razer's concept just about nails it. I'm not saying it's perfect, which it is far from, but it doesn't take away from the fact that playing the latest games on this thing is a lot of fun. I do agree that Razer needs to find a way to shed some weight to the tablet and Gamepad because playing it for an hour gets tiring regardless of how entrenched you are into your game. There's also the question of the Razer Edge's relevance in the world where one can just buy a gaming laptop and hook up a gamepad. Also, if you are in the market for just a tablet for reading news and eBooks, there are plenty of other options. If you are looking for a gaming PC then you are still better off getting a desktop. However, if someone is looking for a tablet with laptop capabilities such as the Surface Pro and is a hardcore gamer, the Razer Edge is something that should definitely be considered.

Cnet‘s review Edit

There's something to the Razer Edge that makes sense, if you spend a bit of time with it. Ever since Windows 8 rolled in, the concept of the old-school gaming laptop feels like it's come up against the redesigned interface and hardware flow of the computers that have emerged since. Touch-screen input has become a somewhat useful if not necessary part of Windows 8, even if games don't require it. The Razer Edge signals a strategy shift away from traditional PC gaming to an increasingly portable consumer computer landscape. This won't be the last handheld device to tempt PC gamers away from the desktop. All its modes feel weirdly practical, too, avoiding the challenges that the touch-screen Switchblade UI continues to pose for Razer's Blade gaming laptop. And, especially compared with the Blade, the Edge's price isn't too high.

PC World‘s review Edit

Razer's first tablet delivers killer performance in a reasonably portable package. You can finally play PC games on a tablet, but you have to accept some compromises.

Engadget‘s review Edit

All told, Razer can get away with calling the Edge the world's most powerful tablet, at least for now. The company's claim to a mobile and home gaming console, however, falls flat. With only two hours of usable battery life in a best-case scenario, the Edge fails to meet the needs of a mobile gaming device, and the inherent problems of using Windows 8 on a television screen keep it from stealing the console crown. Gamers looking for the perfect Steambox will likely want to wait for something a bit smoother, but PC enthusiasts looking for a well-built and intriguing toy will find the Edge an enjoyable, if expensive, distraction. As for us? We're hoping Razer takes the tablet down the same road as its Blade line of laptops: regular updates with significant price and spec improvements. Here's to the next generation of Windows 8 gaming tablets.

We really wanted to like the Edge, but the design limitations currently make this a better idea on paper. At present, this is one dull Edge.

PC Magazine‘s review Edit

The Razer Edge Pro gaming tablet is the rare device that reimagines what the PC experience should be and delivers something that's not just different, but better. That it's made to let you game anywhere just makes it a lot more fun.
