Olympus Stylus Tough TG-2 Pro Reviews

Olympus's Stylus TG-2 is their new leader in the "tough" or "lifeproof" camera category. Sporting a 12-Megapixel CMOS and powerful processor, this camera will also perform as well just about any other compact digicam. Add its stylish and very protective body and you have a camera that can handle just about anything.

The Olympus TG-2 offers a very rugged body combined with good image quality, a fast lens, superb performance, a full-featured GPS system and plenty of fun extras. Downsides are few, which include issues with panning in movies, highlight clipping and chromatic aberrations in photos, and difficulty seeing the display outdoors.

The Olympus Tough TG-2 is a rugged compact camera with full Hd video recording, a bright f/2.0 lens, and an extremely impressive macro mode. The camera gives some level of manual controls with a new aperture priority mode. Images are good, with excellent colour reproduction, although detail is not as good as it could be. We also struggled to take a decent panorama shot. We were also disappointed by the lens noise picked up during video recording. The camera responds quickly, and has 5fps continuous shooting at full resolution. Rather uniquely the camera can also use a fish-eye or 1.7x telephoto convertor lens giving additional shooting options. If you are looking for a tough waterproof camera, and would like to have the option to expand your kit with adapters, or love taking close up macro photos, then the Olympus Tough TG-2 is recommended.

The Olympus Tough TG-2 iHS rugged camera is a very minor upgrade to the excellent TG-1. It comes in at a lower price and walks away with our Editors' Choice award.

Despite being little more than a refresh for 2013, the Olympus Tough TG-2 remains a very solid camera in more than one way, and one that easily earns our “Recommended” award.
