Nikon Coolpix S4300 Pro Reviews

ephotozine‘s review Edit

When comparing the specifications, the S4300 appears to be a very similar camera to the Nikon Coolpix S4200, both having 16 megapixels sensors, 6x optical zoom and 720p HD video recording, the S4300 has Lens shift VR rather than the eVR found on the S4200. When taking a closer look it clear that performance is also very similar - colour reproduction is good, but detail is poor, particularly if you are shooting at ISO 200 and above, although if you only take pictures to share on social networking sites you shouldn't have too much to be concerned about.

PhotographyBLOG‘s review Edit

The Nikon Coolpix S4300 is a simple point and shoot camera that does what it's required to do. It records occasions for families and doesn't break the bank doing it. It looks nice enough and the user interface is easy enough to understand. The touchscreen isn't as responsive as we'd like but we're used to smart phones these days. We found the best way to get the most out of the screen is to use a sharp ended implement such as a touch-screen pen or a finger nail. Other than that, the S4300 is quite well built without winning any awards. Essentially, it'll do its job but don't be lackadaisical when looking after it. The plastic parts aren't as shock absorbent as a metal body.

With its expansive focal range, commendable touchscreen and straightforward operation the S4300 is winner on a number of levels - but sadly none regarding image quality.

TechRadar UK‘s review Edit

The Nikon S4300 is an easy to use camera that will make novice photographers feel at home, thanks to the many automatic modes. However, the absence of any manual control also alienates those who want more control over images. Furthermore, image quality is hit and miss, with reliable metering, white balance and autofocus on one hand and significant noise, smeared details, blown highlights and poor telephoto performance on the other. Video quality is also disappointing and the lens isn't very bright. Overall, the Nikon Coolpix S4300 feels like a basic camera with a touchscreen grafted on. Those who are most concerned with absolute image quality should look elsewhere, and if you're not impressed by the touchscreen operation you can get similar image quality from the cheaper Olympus VG-170. However, if you value a responsive touchscreen and easy to use controls above everything else, the Nikon Coolpix S4300 will serve you well. However, if you want the best image or video quality for your money, other cameras would suit you better.

A smart design and an elegant touchscreen interface can't make up for basic videos and noisy photos
