The Samsung Galaxy S III is almost upon us (just a week to go until the big announcement), but not everyone can afford the top of the line smartphones. Samsung has today announced that its midrange model, the Galaxy S Advance, will be shipping in a few days time on April 30th in the UK. It might not quite be all singing and dancing, but it’s a pretty respectable offering.

Samsung Galaxy S Advance, you know that Sammy smartphone that sits somewhere between the original Galaxy S and Galaxy S II, has been spotted at the FCC, where the government-employed engineers got to play with it before it’s potentially introduced to the U.S. market. We say “potentially,” since the fact that some device gets FCC’s seal of approval doesn’t necessarily mean it will be introduced by an U.S. carrier.

Intrigued by the Galaxy S Advance's more-than-middleweight specifications revealed yesterday? Well, if you're residing in the UK, you can expect to see the curved smartphone arrive on the Three network. Packing a five megapixel camera and a 1GHz dual-core processor, the Galaxy S Advance will also grace us with a four-inch Super AMOLED display. Although pricing and availability remains a closely guarded secret -- the phone hasn't reached the carrier's Coming Soon pages yet -- anyone seeking out an upgrade to their increasingly creaky Galaxy S can expect to see more details appear soon. The Galaxy GT-I9070 that surfaced in the past few days undergoing testing at the FCC has been given a name. Turning up in the Philippines, the new model has been dubbed the Galaxy S Advance. While originally thought to be a spin-off of the Galaxy S II, it appears like a cross between the original Galaxy S and the Nexus S, amounting to a what could be described as a Galaxy S 1.5. While it carries the same 1GHz clock speed as the Galaxy S and Nexus S, it includes a more advanced dual-core processor.
