FujiFilm FinePix Z900 EXR Pro Reviews

www.whatdigitalcamera.com‘s review Edit

Thanks to its large, responsive touchscreen and the way in which the camera is operated the Z900 is an enjoyable model to use. True, its images aren't quite up to scratch on their default settings, but high-sensitivity images turn out better than expected, making it a useful and stylish option for a night out.

We feel that the Z900EXR is designed for a keen amateur that simply wants a camera for fitting into a bag or pocket but doesn't want to compromise on image quality. It's interesting to note (especially after using the night mode) that using a preset mode sets the Z900EXR up more for getting the best picture than simply placing it in Program. That's not to say that only keen amateurs will benefit from the Fujifilm Finepix Z900EXR. Younger people will like the design and touch-screen technology while the tech-savvy will enjoy getting to grips with the EXR modes and explaining how the BSI sensor works to all their friends. If this sounds like you then you need to get the camera on your to-do list.

Ultimately, the Canon's superiority in bright conditions is the most significant difference between the two, both technically and in terms of practical use. The Z900EXR is still an impressive compact and comes a close second, though.

The Fujifilm FinePix Z900 EXR is a stylish little ultra-compact that feels solid and well made. The large 3.5in monitor is sharp and clear and remains useable outdoors in bright conditions too. The touchscreen controls are perfectly responsive and the new icon-based menu is easy to navigate. Overall, we’d say that image quality is on a par with other compacts in this price range. The EXR-specific shooting modes deliver plenty of contrast and also help to reduce noise in low-light conditions. The lens can be a bit soft though, especially at the edges and corners and at its telephoto extremes.

The FujiFilm FinePix Z900EXR is undoubtedly an improvement over its predecessor, with a revamped sensor, Full HD movie capability and some fun touch screen options - but it's not the easiest to hold and the zoom could be less noisy.

ephotozine‘s review Edit

The Z900 is a feature packed compact, well designed and good looking while being small enough to tuck into your pocket when going out with friends. It's let down by a short battery life and if you enjoy taking close-up macro images, the minimum focus distance of just 9cm means you can't get too close. Other than that, you have full HD video recording, 360° panoramic sweep mode and a 3 inch wide touch screen which are very welcome features on this camera.

Pocket-lint‘s review Edit

A higher resolution than its predecessor (though from the same size sensor), HDMI output, Full HD video and use of the zoom when recording are all notable improvements over the Z800EXR, which a year ago we were recommending as a best buy for those looking for a competent “auto everything” point and shoot. Of course the market has moved on since then and we now expect a lot of bells and whistles for our bucks. Even so, the Z900EXR still comes on like a little firecracker for beginners happy to point and shoot in the main, with sufficient creative features to lift it above the others in class in a straight head to head comparison. Again, given our outlined caveats and for the £199 asking price, it cannot really be faulted.
