Canon PowerShot SX220 HS Pro Reviews

www.whatdigitalcamera.com‘s review Edit

The SX220 HS is an impressive all-round travel compact which is priced competitively relative to equivalent cameras. The specification offers more than enough for the casual shooting, while HD video capture and full PASM control will satisfy those looking for something more advanced. However, there are several handling issues and niggles that detract from the overall user experience. Add to that a fair number of image quality issues and, while the SX220 HS is still a very good camera, it just misses the mark.

PC Advisor‘s review Edit

The Canon PowerShot SX220 HS is a dependable choice of compact. Largely similar to the SX210, it’s not the best-looking camera out there but does take consistently good photos. It’s sensible mid-priced choice. If GPS is a must, check out the Canon PowerShot SX230 HS.

Pocket-lint‘s review Edit

Overall the Canon PowerShot SX220 HS is a worthy successor to the SX210 IS that we liked last year. The range of options on offer makes it a camera that will perform for those who just want a point and shoot and those that want the benefit of a long zoom in a pocketable camera. The effects and manual options provide versatility, so you’re not restricted by a camera that’s too simple.

ephotozine‘s review Edit

The Canon Powershot SX220 HS improves on the previous model by introducing a new 12Mp back lit CMOS sensor, this enables better noise performance with lower noise at higher ISO settings, and quicker performance. The lens is good although there is some vignetting at full optical zoom. The screen looks great although some may find the 16:9 aspect ratio awkward for standard photos, but great for Full HD video recording. The camera is extremely compact considering it has a 14x optical zoom lens, and makes a great travel companion. Recommended!

PhotographyBLOG‘s review Edit

The new Canon PowerShot SX220 HS is a more sensibly priced and better-specced challenger to the market-leading Panasonic TZ-series, going head to head with the TZ18, which it actually betters on paper in quite a few aspects. Judged on its own merits, the Canon PowerShot SX220 HS is a strong recommendation as a travel zoom camera that does it all with the minimum of fuss.

Canon's 12.1 million pixel PowerShot SX220HS has a 14x optical zoom which starts at 28mm and extends to 392mm providing plenty of scope for capturing sweeping landscape vistas, portraits and distant details.
