jamo D 500 Pro Reviews

TechRadar UK‘s review Edit

So, they sound brilliant, are gorgeous in their rich piano black finish and at £1,750 they're a bit of a bargain, too. Yes, Teufel's Select 2 system is £300 cheaper, but it's only available online – you can get a demo of this system before you buy.

With its powerful, detailed and enveloping sound, the Jamo D500 was clearly born to play movies. We’ve tested several systems in this price bracket of late, but few of them can match the levels of effortless power and depth as shown by the D500. Its price tag will still seem steep to some, but remember what you’re getting for your money – a THX Select 2 certified system with a 650W subwoofer, with exceptional build quality and suave, living-room friendly styling, and that, in our eyes, makes the D500 an absolute steal, despite its less-than-dazzling music performance.

For £1700 all in, this system is simply astonishing value. It goes loud with ease, retains its composure even under duress, and its SUB 650 subwoofer ensures formidable thunder for your money. To seal the deal, the D500 SUR rear speakers, based on THX’s favoured dipole principle, wrap audio around you in style, ensuring even older films and simpler TV soundtracks have outstanding ambience and spaciousness. Of course, not everyone will like the idea of a system that’s biased more towards film than music. But that’s about the only notional compromise in this Jamo’s make-up – and so long as you know what you’re buying, it’s one we’re happy to accept.
