ASUS SABERTOOTH P67 Pro Reviews

bjorn3d‘s review Edit

Overall the P67 Sabertooth is definitely an adequate performer in all respects. The P67 Sabertooth comes with plenty of unique features such as the thermal shield along with plenty of nice features such as the addition of numerous USB 3.0 ports on the back and front panel. As always ASUS also did quite well with the included accessories and the quality of the board overall seems very good. Unfortunately there are a few drawbacks to the P67 Sabertooth as well. First of all, it would have been nice to see the ability to run two graphics cards in SLI/CrossFire with both cards at x16 rather than x8, however this is a chipset limitation that affects all P67 motherboards. It is also somewhat odd that the P67 Sabertooth seems to have issues with sleep mode: we never once successfully got the test system to resume Windows from sleep mode and further research shows that this may be a common problem with all P67 motherboards, not just the P67 Sabertooth

In the end, both of the ASUS boards performed, overclocked, and looked extremely great. I can honestly say that if you were to pick up either of the two, you'd be happy.

The ASUS Sabertooth P67 is clearly targeted to the user concerned with quality and reliability. If you want to build a system that will last years without giving you trouble, this is a motherboard to consider. The features available, such as four SATA-600 ports, four USB 3.0 ports, two PCI Express x16 slots, two eSATA-300 ports, two FireWire ports, and on-board SPDIF output, will satisfy the demanding user. It is important, however, to understand that the Sabertooth P67 is not a “true” high-end model. Extreme enthusiasts will require more overclocking options, more PCI Express x16 slots, and a better audio codec, just to name a few of the features that are “missing.”

xbitlabs‘s review Edit

Our tests showed that despite radically unusual looks, Asus Sabertooth P67 mainboard is a typical product from this world famous manufacturer. In this context the word “typical” has purely positive connotation, because Asus mainboards always please us with convenient design, wide range of supported features, excellent configuring and overclocking functionality and well-establish technical support system. The drawbacks, if there are any at all, are usually insignificant. All this is totally true about Asus Sabertooth P67 mainboard, although it has an additional advantage over other regular mainboards: prolonged warranty period of 5 years. As for the drawbacks, we could probably point out the lack of “Asus Probe II”, “FAN Xpert”, “EPU” and “TurboV EVO” programs in the AI Suite II utility suite. This is a minor omission, because the new “Thermal Radar” utility replaces and even extends the functionality of the first two.

The ASUS Sabertooth P67 shows that motherboard engineers and true innovation are still around. The TUF Thermal Armor is a great idea with great execution right up the point that it puts the technology into consumers' hands. That is when ASUS comes up tragically short and pisses off everyone that buys this board over the exclusion of a cheap ass fan. How stupid is that? Pretty damn stupid. There are lots of upsides to Thermal Armor and some caveats that need to be known as well. One thing we have not mentioned is that Thermal Armor looks sick inside a case window. Want to paint the Thermal Armor to match your system theme or motif? Nothing stopping you there.

hardwarecanucks‘s review Edit

ASUS has found a niche market for the Sabertooth TUF series and the P67 version fits in to it like a well honed glove. The board is designed for those that want ROG quality components but don’t necessarily need the extra features and associated cost. In all reality, when you look through our results, there isn’t one area in which the Sabertooth is lacking against the competition or even some much higher priced boards.

The Sabertooth P67 is a great example of adding features to make the motherboard stand out. From TUF Armor and components to two extra SATA controllers to a completely revamped method of hardware setting management through the UEFI, the Sabertooth P67 makes the standard P67 motherboards look watered-down and boring. Digital voltage regulation, efficient energy processing, TurboV processing, and a software suite to control it all from within Windows are things you won't find everywhere. Overall, I am very impressed and I highly recommend the ASUS Sabertooth P67 for anyone looking at upgrading to a Sandy Bridge desktop.
