FujiFilm FinePix F550EXR Pro Reviews

www.whatdigitalcamera.com‘s review Edit

If you're after an enthusiast focused compact, then you're better off looking at the Olympus XZ-1 or Panasonic LX5, but for those after a solid, all-round compact camera, then the F550EXR fits the bill in many ways and is a very well specified piece of kit, especially when you consider the price - 15x zoom, fast AF, and 8fps for starters. That said, while images are good and inline with the competition, they don't quite deliver the standout results we were hoping for. Rather than opt for a CMOS BSI chip, it's a shame the Super CCD chip that was employed by the F300EXR hasn't been developed further.

Macworld‘s review Edit

The Fujifilm FinePix’s F550 feature set varies from the pocket megazoom norm, and that’s largely a good thing. You don’t have to understand how some of the special features, such as the EXR modes, work; you only have to figure out how and when to use them. The F550’s GPS features are also among the best we’ve seen in a camera yet, as they take GPS further than just longitudinal and latitudinal EXIF data. With so many features, the F550 is priced right for snapshooters and enthusiasts.

PC Advisor‘s review Edit

The 15X-zoom FinePix F550EXR has GPS features and in-camera extras that go beyond the norm, but its image and video quality lags a bit behind competitors.

PhotographyBLOG‘s review Edit

The Fujifilm Finepix F550 EXR is a stylish, full-featured and likeable compact camera, with the 15x zoom opening up a wealth of framing possibilities, but the move to a 16 megapixel sensor and the resulting drop in image quality rather spoils the party. The F550 EXR is still a good camera, with a long list of stand-out features and a logical, well-thought-out interface, but as with the HS20 EXR that we reviewed recently, we can't help feeling that the model that the F550 replaces actually produces better photos.

Pocket-lint‘s review Edit

There are lots of high-end, mid-zoom compacts out there, but the Fujifilm FinePix F550EXR manages to deliver something unique. It’s packed to the rafters with features that set it apart from the competition and the EXR mode on the main dial is an enhanced point-and-shoot mode to take advantage of for good shots in most conditions. We do think that the new sensor is a little overly resolute to the detriment of image quality, but these 16 megapixel snaps are on par with equivalent compact cameras. There’s not a lot missing here, and if you can find a good online deal then the F550EXR offers enough to keep some of its closest rivals at bay. An impressive little camera with a rangey zoom.

ephotozine‘s review Edit

The Fujifilm FinePix F550EXR packs everything into a compact body, and does so at a significantly lower price than the competition. With a wide angle 15x optical zoom lens, a large 3inch screen, and built in GPS, the compact camera would make a great travel companion, especially as it's one of the smallest pocket zooms available with GPS. The use of an EXR CMOS sensor allows high speed shooting, high speed video, improved dynamic range, and low noise modes. Image quality is very good with pleasing colours, and impressive video quality.

trustedreviews‘s review Edit

Compared to its main rivals within the advanced travel compact sector the FujiFilm F550 EXR is a well-built camera that delivers a fairly expansive feature-set at a competitive price. It's easy-to-use and adaptable, delivering images of a consistently good, if not quite exceptional, quality. Adventurous types will doubtless be enticed by the addition of GPS functionality, while the ability to record lossless Raw image files further broadens the camera’s appeal to enthusiasts. The Fujifilm F550 EXR is certainly worth a look if you are in the market for a travel or advanced-level compact.

PC Magazine‘s review Edit

Fujifilm's FinePix F550EXR is a feature-rich compact camera with a big 15x zoom lens. It even adds a few manual controls and goodies for photo enthusiasts—but its image quality is underwhelming, especially for the $350 price.
