Microsoft Zune HD Pro Reviews

ubergizmo‘s review Edit

With the Zune HD, Microsoft is making a big come back in the portable media player market. May be not in terms of market share (yet), but in terms of technology, service and overall coolness. Technologically, the Zune HD is one of the most powerful mobile devices out there and its user interface is unbelievably fast, but it lacks applications beyond the basic media player functions. At least, it's got great potential. At the moment, the iPod touch has better (and so much more) apps, and provides a better web experience. You need to know if you want your device to be a media player or a personal digital assistant (PDA).

PC Advisor‘s review Edit

Microsoft is definitely packing the punches in the battle for best touch portable media player and this is only the hardware. New apps, a variety of new music discovery features in the software and Zune's expansion into Xbox LIVE territory. Whether the Microsoft Zune HD is sufficiently successful to make it to the UK remains to be seen, but the portents are good.

The Zune HD is a great little device. As a Personal Media Player it is hands down the best one I have used. The audio and video quality is amazing.

CrunchGear‘s review Edit

It’s a beautiful, intuitive, fun-to-use PMP, and while it will soon have some extra capabilities in the form of nice apps and games (hopefully without ads, for the love of god), the Zune’s primary purpose is and has always been delivering (and expanding) your collection with style and gusto. The Zune HD is just as good as everyone wanted it to be, and way better than some people would have liked it to be.

After playing with Microsoft's Zune HD for a couple of days, we can really say that it's one of the most impressive portable multimedia players out there, in terms of the overall portable entertainment experience it is able to provide. If you decide to ditch the stock headphones and opt for some good-quality, third-party models, you'll be able to enjoy a good quality, crisp and clear music wherever you might go, which will certainly do justice to the superb OLED display.

Pocket-lint‘s review Edit

As a music player this is a pretty compelling offer. The player is small, well priced, and sexy enough to impress. The music, HD Radio, video and image playback on that OLED screen is very cool, and the Zune Pass if that's what you want, is great. However that's where it stops. The Internet browser is pretty worthless for anything other than checking the odd web page and the app's offering at the moment is heavily unrepresentative of what it could be.

The Zune HD delivers one of the best portable music and video experiences money can buy. At a time when many people have shifted their focus to games and applications, providing a killer media experience may not be enough for potential Zune buyers.

IGN Gear‘s review Edit

We were quite satisfied with the Zune HD and would recommend it to anyone looking for a solid, sleek, and stylish iPod alternative. Eventually we'd like to see a Zune Phone and a way to use the Zune HD on a Mac OS, but for now, those are just pipe dreams.

Microsoft's first Zune attempts won it a few dedicated users but a whole lot of criticism. In the face of Apple's all-conquering iPod touch there was only

With a fantastic OLED touch screen, a top-notch Web browser, and a wireless music store, the Zune HD is the best PMP you can buy-that is, if you live outside the iTunes universe.

Microsoft's take on the iPod Touch hits hard with video capability, but falls short on multitasking.

The Zune HD is a huge step forward for Microsoft's Zune line, but you still have to pay extra for some of the best features.

Engadget‘s review Edit

Perhaps the most compelling reason to buy a Zune HD right now isn't the gorgeous screen or forthcoming apps, HD radio, or slick design. Make no mistake about it - this is a fine, fine device, and no one would fault you for buying one - but it's not the device itself that is the most attractive part of this package. To us, it seems like the single most compelling reason to choose this device over something like the iPod touch can be boiled down to one thing: Zune Pass.
