Microsoft Zune HD Questions & Answers
iPod touch or Zune HD (16GB versions)?
Follow Discussion
Hi, looking for advice on portable players. I'm considering iPod touch and Zune HD. If you had to make a decision, what would you choose and why?
OLED touch screen, very good web browser and a wireless music store - these are the reasons I will choose the Zune
Is this a serious discussion? The iPod touch is a winner in my eyes. Beside the good music and video capabilities, you can stuff it with lots of apps and games. Its a lot thinner as well.
I'd go for the iPod Touch as well.
Zune HD looks slick as hell, but I'll go for the iPod as well. Just check out how many apps are available for Zune and iPod. I guess the only thing that can bring anyone on the Zune side is probably easier PC connectivity and file transfers. Apart from that, I'm iPod all the way.
I will choose the Zune...I don't need apps and games to watch and listen my favorite music
If you only need music you can just get a nano for far less money, no point in both the HD and iPod touch then.
You can't watch videos on the nano
I like them both, but an Apple is an Apple :)
As far as I remember, Microsoft announced that the Zune platform will no longer be developed, killed by the iPod Touch. The answer is obvious for me.
I agree with crossblade you can`t compare two devices when the one is already...well discontinued :) Not that the Apple`s support for the iPod touch is very good but that is another topic...
Apple upgrades 3-gen old devices to the current OS. Not good support you say?
Recently i messed around with an iPod touch first generation...it literally didn`t have a working way of updating it without a jailbreak...so after several hours i gave up...I`ll post a question in several hours explaining the problem in detail...but updating through jailbreaking is not a good support :)
To update it, connect it to a computer with the original USB cable, run iTunes, choose the device and hit "update". It will automatically update to the latest available version. I believe it is iOS 3.-something.

I tried that...the ipod has the 1.x version of the firmware currently...When i try to update it through iTunes it gives me "could not open key"...I`m using 64-bits Windows 7 running as admin...I guess that the problem might be windows related...I tried older iTunes and upgrading the version with a baked backup but it bricked the device and i had to restore it...

Okay, thanks all. Looks like I'll be getting the latest iPod touch. :) And thanks for pointing out that the Zune thing is dead, had no idea about that.
