Sony Ericsson Xperia arc Pro Reviews

pocketnow‘s review Edit

As the first Sony Ericsson smartphone to employ Sony’s television and digital camera technologies, the Xperia Arc is rather charming. Anyone who places photography and video playback at the top of their must-have smartphone criteria will be delighted with the Xperia Arc. Although beauty is in the eye of the beholder, many would agree that the Arc is both attractive in appearance and performance. That being said, it would have been nice if Sony Ericsson had manufactured the Arc with a bit less plastic.

S ony Ericsson’s Xperia Arc is another Android Smartphone with a sleek design. The phone is equipped with all the conveniences and the Bravia Mobile Engine ensures staggering results on the touchscreen. The 8.1 megapixel camera ensures for very beautiful photos; at least on the screen they look really good. The actual results are less impressive, but they are not bad. This is strange, because the color representation should be really good, but I find that the colors are a lot more intense (and sometimes more beautiful) on the screen.

CNET Reviews‘s review Edit

The Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc is a beautiful handset with some great features, but a high price tag and no network optimization leave few reasons to buy this unlocked Android phone.

ephotozine‘s review Edit

The first thing to hit you about the Arc is the huge screen, and ultra slim profile, with a curved back the phone feels good to hold (as a phone). The second thing to hit you about the Arc, especially if you're used to using your phone as a camera (as I am with the Nokia N8), or normal cameras, is that the shutter release button is TINY, and holding the phone as a camera can often be difficult.

The Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc combines good specifications with a strong physical design, and the smooth lines and thinness of the Arc really appeal.

www.computeractive.co.uk‘s review Edit

The Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc costs £400 on pay-as-you-go, which is good value for a powerful large-screen smartphone. We also found it available on a two-year £25-a-month contract with no up-front cost for the handset, which is also reasonable. Other phones are cheaper, but with a good screen, lightweight design, powerful processor and good camera the Xperia Arc is a good smartphone indeed.

It's too early to make a judgement on the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc, which is expected to launch in Q1 of this year, but signs are promising - it looks beautiful and comes with Google Android 2.3 'Gingerbread'. Watch this space.

Geeky Gadgets‘s review Edit

The Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc seems like a decent Android smartphone, the camera is very good and it does a great job of taking still photos and shooting HD video. The design of the Xperia Arc is pretty good, and the 4.2 inch display is quite good, although not as good as some of the other smartphones which are currently available. The Xperia Arc costs about £430 here in the UK SIM free, which when compared to other devices with better specifications it does seem a little on the expensive side. If you are in the market for a new Android smartphone, and are a fan of Sony Ericsson handsets we would reccomend you check out the new Xperia Arc, although there are better devices available for a similar price with higher specifications.

Subtle and practical improvements to Android, a decent camera and a large, colourful screen make the arc tempting, but it may soon find itself outpaced by dual-core models.

GSMArena‘s review Edit

In the end though, is the Arc worth it and did Sony Ericsson make a difference? The answer is yes, though not without reserves. The XPERIA Arc more than any other recent phone puts Sony Ericsson back on the map as a premium device manufacturer. And the Arc does command a premium. Sony Ericsson's own XPERIA Neo costs some good 80 euro less and almost the same feature set sans the exquisite looks. Both offers solid smartphone experience and capable imaging but the Arc's looks tell a story. It's beautiful and powerful and will stay so at least for a few months. Enjoy and don’t let the dual core gang spoil your party. That’s for Sony Ericsson to worry about.

Wrapping it up, the Xperia arc is a highly functional phone that balances both productivity and its multimedia prowess delicately. To top it off, it is a steal for all its attributes at a reasonable price of S$888.

If you like your smartphones sleek and slim yet still packed with features, the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc should be high on your list. It's among the thinnest phones in its class yet packs in a large high quality screen, has a better camera than most – with a shutter button, and has all the connectivity you'd expect of a modern smartphone. Yes, it lacks a dual-core processor but it's still plenty fast enough and is competitively priced. Simply put, it's a great buy.

SlashGear‘s review Edit

If the XPERIA Play failed to persuade us that it was the future of mobile gaming, the Sony Ericsson XPERIA Arc has no such caveats when it comes to solid multimedia and all-round performance. No, it doesn’t have a dual-core processor or record Full HD, but it also has a relatively low price tag and still manages to pack its functionality into an impressively slimline chassis.

Phone Arena‘s review Edit

Wrapping up our review of the Sony Ericsson Xperia arc we have to say that the company seems to have nailed it this time. The thin arched profile makes you forget that you are holding a gadget with a huge 4.2” screen. On top of that it is very light thanks to its plastic build, and the tasteful design and chromed rim remains sleek and classy. We're extremely thankful that the company has endowed the handset with Gingerbread and simplified its Android skinning efforts, since this improves usability and should speed up the eventual OS updates.

Pocket-lint‘s review Edit

So where does that leave the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc? It’s leagues ahead of the Xperia X10, there is no question about that. But there is also a feeling that an upgrade to the software would make it into a fantastic phone, rather than one that is just good.

TechRadar UK‘s review Edit

If you think 4.2" is too big for a mobile phone, the Arc will change your mind. The case is only a few millimetres larger than the HTC Desire, meaning you get all the benefits of having a huge display in a phone that doesn't feel unusually large.

Pocket-lint‘s review Edit

The Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc is certainly a major improvement for the company and one that we’re excited about. We’re left with first impressions of the device that are good. The good thing about Timescape is that you don’t have to use it and there is plenty of provision in the Android Market for alternative social networking apps. But what you are left with is a handset that looks fabulous and adds a new proposition with an enhanced camera.
