MSI 785GM-E65 Pro Reviews

bjorn3d‘s review Edit

The MSI 785G-E65 that we have reviewed today features a nice array of ports, a decent overclock, and nice overall layout. At retail price of $89.99, this micro ATX board has enough expansion slots (1 PCIE x1, 1 PCIE x16, and two PCI) and six SATA ports should satisfy its target audience. One minor issue we have with the board is probably its display driver where we experienced a slightly higher than usual CPU utilization with our MPEG-2 playback, which can easily be fixed with new driver update.

If you're already running one of AMD's previous 700-series chipsets as the basis for a current PC, the AMD 785G chipset isn't a dramatic enough change to warrant an upgrade. However the MSI 785GM-E65 and the AMD 785G chipset is easy to recommend to anyone who has purchased a new socket AM3 processor and wants to put it into an affordable but fully-featured motherboard. It's versatile, stable, performs well, and best of all at $95 CDN, ($90 USD, £55 GBP), it's the same price as the AMD 780G motherboards it replaces - that's value you can take to the bank!

If you're uninterested in overclocking but you want a full fat and well working 785G motherboard, then the MSI 785GM-E65 should make your short list. If you do want to overclock and unlock cores to add value then avoid this board. There are still better options out there for that.

If you're happy with a single x16 PCIe slot then this motherboard with the AMD processor will make a solid gaming system.

motherboards‘s review Edit

From the perspective of a gamer that is used to playing games with all of the settings on maximum and with high resolution, the 785GM-E65 is a bit of a disappointment, being that performance in games is not fully playable with high settings enabled. This motherboard is not targeted for the hardcore enthusiast who would likely have a bleeding-edge video card anyway so that's not a big issue. The casual gamer wanting to play games with all of the visual fidelity and features of the discrete card will love the integrated graphics as the HD 4200 has support for Shader Model 4.1 and fully supports DX 10.1.
